Exhaust fumes aren't the only fumes or particle matter created by vehicles.
There's brake pad dust, cast iron dust, dust kicked up the under the car and tire tread compound dust.

I understand why people do it, but overuse reduces the efficacy. It's one of the reasons I limit cursing. If someone hears me curse, I'm either making a joke, or emphasising the seriousness of the situation. Context will clue the person in as to which use I intend.

Then there is me working on a car. I've got the vocabulary of a sailor when working on a vehicle. Probably should clean up my shop language.

The ones who are now calling Trump "literally Hitler" are in fact closer to Hitler's doctrine than Trump himself. Remember what Joseph Goebbels said about a lie repeated several times becoming perceived as a truth by the sheeple?

Indeed, but it's not so accurate to compare an experience that follows strict scientific protocols with Josef Mengele's pseudo-science.

I remember reading the Dixie Chicks claimed that George W. "Literally did everything Hitler did." I cannot find that quote now. Did someone misrepresent them? Was that quote lost to time? It seems like people are so busy gossiping about Turnip George W. has been reduced to "Some guy I remember not liking."

If you read about Saddam Hussein, he was a vile and terrible man, but he was still not in the same class as Hitler. Some day I will work with kids older than first grade and one of them will claim I am "literally Hitler."

I hope to remember to respond "Nein!"

They're pushing something called the Mandela Effect on people who dis-remember. It's like believing the Flat Earth* 'false rumours'. A few moments with Wikipedia:

Quote:
During the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Dixie Chicks performed on March 10, 2003, at Shepherd's Bush Empire theatre in London, the first concert stop on their Top of the World Tour. Prior to performing their song "Travelin' Soldier", the band gave an introductory monologue during which Maines said:

Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.[43]

A review of the concert published in The Guardian abbreviated Maines's comment to read, "Just so you know ... we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."[31] This abbreviated statement became widely circulated by the media.
Hindsight is a funny thing. I remember when Eugene McCarthy was thought to be wrong.

I've already said too much.

Quote:
Fleet Foxes Lyrics
"Helplessness Blues"

I was raised up believing I was somehow unique
Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see
And now after some thinking, I'd say I'd rather be
A functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me

But I don't, I don't know what that will be
I'll get back to you someday soon you will see

What's my name, what's my station, oh, just tell me what I should do
I don't need to be kind to the armies of night that would do such injustice to you
Or bow down and be grateful and say "sure, take all that you see"
To the men who move only in dimly-lit halls and determine my future for me

And I don't, I don't know who to believe
I'll get back to you someday soon you will see

If I know only one thing, it's that everything that I see
Of the world outside is so inconceivable often I barely can speak
Yeah I'm tongue-tied and dizzy and I can't keep it to myself
What good is it to sing helplessness blues, why should I wait for anyone else?
