Roof racks are quite usual on Beetles in Brazil, but Jim Dandy racks not so much. Those other racks attached to the engine cover are also not so widespread, even though they're starting to become more popular among enthusiasts.

I find them useful when bicycling into the wind. Keeps bugs out of your mouth.
