Might be due to an intense usage of the brakes, and it being fitted with front discs which is not uncommon as a retrofit. Sometimes I see claims that disc brakes lead to much dust buildup to the wheels.

Probably it. I now regret converting the Superbeetle to disks, ecomodding doesn't really benefit from the added drag.

The owner of this '72 Kombi Lotação told me he inherited it from his grandfather who had been its first owner since brand-new.

Does he use it as a taxi? What does it say over the headlight?

According to the samba (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/...olorstype2.php) Mango Green was a 1959-61 color, paired with Seagull Gray.

This is an actual objet d' art. He made it to troll art museums. Din't even know about the Plattenwagen until he was 2/3rd done.

No, and AFAIK neither his grandfather did.

Some of those 6-door Kombis actually served as share-taxis, including in my hometown before they were replaced by larger minibuses.

That might be just a reflex. All those pictures were taken with a phone.

Read the shadows. Compare the far edge of the three doors. Ignore the shadow of the door mirror and look at the shadow of the C-pillar (between the rear doors).

A long straight edge would show 1/4-1/2" (5-10mm) gap.
