Were I to do that, I'd jack the wheel up and spin it against the brush.

I believe the latest trend is getting things to look like they are almost worn out. Guy down the street has a 65 chevy pickup that looks clearcoated over the original paint with primer and rust showing, but it is all new paint. Much like the squareback I posted with the artificial rust

Even the last split-window Transporters made in Brazil are nearing the 50y.o. milestone, as the last year for them was '75. German ones were phased out in '67.

It’s an aircooled Surprise!

A few days ago I walked through the National Studebaker Museum. I know a bit about Studebakers as my family has owned more than most people. If you the reader didn’t know, at the end when they were going out of business, they used a blend of Chevy, Ford, and Studebaker drivetrain components. All are considered “stock” for that particular model of vehicle. With this said, imagine my surprise when I saw this super rare concept Studebaker Lark with a ‘53 aircooled setup.

My mother's side of the family were Studebaker folk. Probably explains why my first car was a bullet-nose 1950.

Here's the Porsche Type 542.

Quote:
Porsche 542
Porsche 542 or Studebaker Z-87 was a prototype made by Porsche for Studebaker in 1953. The first prototype Porsche 530, a four-seat version of the Porsche 356, was rejected. The new prototype got a different engine, a 3.0 liter, 120 degree V6, unusual for 1953. Two versions were developed, one aircooled 542L and one watercooled 542W. After testing, the water cooled engine was judged more practical as it gave slightly better performance at 105 horsepower and was also lighter.
Manufacturer: Porsche
Also called: Studebaker Z-87
Production: 1953

What surprises me the most about that prototype is that Volkswagen used to resort to Chrysler importers in order to reach overseas markets, including Brasmotor which was the Brazilian assembler for Chrysler and other brands of the group at the time of Volkswagen's arrival in Brazil. Later on, a former assembler of Studebaker in Brazil would merge with Volkswagen in '67, right after Volkswagen bought Auto Union from Daimler-Benz.

Isn't there a Chrysler engine that is basically the slant four from the Golf/Jetta with increased cylinder bore spacing? The one that came in the Rampage pickup truck?

AFAIK the bore spacing was the same.

Here're a couple of things:

There're other instances of movies using VW for stunt vehicles ('Corvette out of a railroad car in F&F, for example)

This has the predecessor to the Schwimmwagen at 3:29, the [wikipedia]Trippel_SG6

IIRC the Trippel Amphicar was powerd by a water-cooled engine to satisfy the U.S. Coast Guard.
