Official MPGuino preassembled now available

Thanks for pulling me into this topic thread, I've been needing to see others ask questions so I can get the gist of what's going on.

What's the backlog like these days? Is it whittled down pretty short?

1. Does the $55 assembled MPGuino require an arduino?
2. Does it require you to program it at a computer before using it?

sorry for the delays guys,
the $55 (including us shipping) unit is assembled and programmed, just wire it into place and get to calibrating it.

If you WANT to program, then that is another matter entirely, the project no longer has dependencies on arduino (arduino is ok for prototype but not production imho as it adds another layer of stuff that breaks and needs maintaining and fights with your still needed low level C code), though folks have compiled the source and loaded it onto one. I prefer avr-gcc, and isp programmers since they don't need a bootloader, which soaks up 2k and also adds instability.

Just an update, received my unit in the mail today. Unfortunately the temps are going into the dumper for the weekend.

I'll try to get a trial install to see if what I think to be true, is. If it works out, I'll spend some time making a water resistant case and mount for it.

Is the LCD backlit? If not, don't you think that is an obvious feature to have since it is used in an automotive application? It can't be hard to use a backlit display vs the normal one.

I have had mine for about a year and love it .. yes it is backlit adjustable as well
I was wondering if there are updates to it and how can we update them if there is?

I recieved mine a few days ago, waiting to get out and pick up a project box, and some time to install it. Very nice assembly of the components. I'm anxious to get it installed, and running!

Hi folks,
Just got mine in the mail today (ordered it a week or week and a half ago, so not much backlog at the moment).

I'm looking forward to figuring out how to install it on my BMW R1150RS. It's fuel injected, so I don't expect much trouble there, but it has a mechanical speedo, so I'm gonna have to rig a VSS sensor. My first attempt (and hopefully final!) will be rigging a magnet to a wheel, and positioning a HES somewhere on the front fork where it can pick up the magnet.

My next challenge will be building a waterproof enclosure for it the MPGuino - I often ride in inclement weather, though we haven't had much of that down here lately

I'm not much a fanatic for economy at the moment, but I like tinkering with things, and the MPGuino looked like a great tinker (I also picked up an Arduino UNO and an LCD, so I'd have bits to futz with, and something stable to install on the bike).

Will post back with updates!
