Until you get the chance to improve it's looks in a more permanent way, a can of black plasti-dip spray would give it a more uniform look and less reflective glare.

Makes perfect sense. They want to see that you're a problem solver. A non-problem solver's solution to poor fuel efficiency is to buy a prius.

What's your degree in? I'm a ME in the austin area.

Why not both? My Prius has a lower grille block and will get more eventually. Not many of the "problem solvers" can beat my mileage.

Looks like basjoos has some competition. That Wink mirror looks interesting, I might have to try one out.

His big gain would come from a swap for the VX final drive. The seventh gen LX should have the 0.711 fifth gear. Whereas the VX, and almost all of the 5th and 6th gen USDM transmissions except the Si models and some EXs had the 0.702 fifth gear. But the VX final drive at 3.250 is a lot taller than the seventh gen LX with the 4.011 final drive.

Bs25942: you fuel up at different stations alot of the time... your numbers, tank to individual tank, would be easier read for gains if you filled at the same pump using the slow fill, stop at first click method. Any interest in that?

I stand corrected, final drive.

3.25 / 4.011 = .81, so his RPMs would reduce by 19%?

How easily could he swap transmissions with two generations previous?

Some say that they bolt right up, and it seems true (pics are available online) but there are two problems: (1) the seventh gen has a cable shifter and the fift and sixth had a shift rod and (2) the seventh gen has an immobilizer for which you would need a workaround. Kinda ups the difficulty significantly. I have not seen anyone claim or show that the gears can be swapped. If the FD could be swapped between them, I guess the other issues with shifters and immobilizer would be moot.

I'm not sure about compatibility but the 1st gen Civic hybrids have a taller final drive, 3.60 IIRC.

maybe is easier to change the inner and output shaft or fifth gear.
I found makes and gearboxes that share components even 20 years old in design
