Thanks for that link. The article and the specs make it look like the Bolt will just be a longer city car. A shame. Tesla needs some real competition for long range EVs.

If Tesla builds the market, they will come.

I'm still kicking myself for not finding the money to buy Tesla stock when it was $20/share. It's up around $200 now! I could have paid for my Model 3 with Tesla stock lol.

An electric-only car forces me to have another car. I live too close to the mountains where there are avalanches and rockslides and the detours can be a couple hundred miles all by themselves. My EV-wannabee vehicle has to be something along the lines of a Chevy Volt, BMW i3, A3 e-tron, or some other electric-based vehicle with a range extender engine.

An electric only car doesn't force you to have another car, the unrelible infrastructure in your area forces it.

Yes, it's been quite the performer for me. But I'm long-term and I think it's a bit over-inflated where it is currently. Even if it loses 1/3 of its value, it's still a big win. Especially if Tesla is as big as Chrysler by 2022 like is currently predicted.

I think that the headline is a bit poorly-worded. Seems to me the headline should read: "GM confirms 60 kWh battery pack for the Bolt EV and THAT DC fast-charging will be optional."

The 60kwh battery isn't optional like the Leaf's 24->30kwh upgrade.

I DID have some Tesla Stock .. but I'm not the day-trader type I guess. I dumped it with a modest gain (bought 175, it went down as low as maybe 115 and recovered to 180). After I sold it, Tesla stock continued up to about 225.

I had more stress over less than $3K invested than I had with the rest of my retirement investments combined .. not logical at all!

Everything sounds obvious in retrospect. And you need to have an appetite for the risk.

Reliable infrastructure will probably never solve the problem of running a 300-mile detour to get around a closure on the North Cascades Highway (for example). Sure, I might be able to stop for recharging somewhere along the way with the right infrastructure - but it's going to set my schedule back significantly considering the detour alone could already be adding 8 hours to my return home without the added delay.

In contrast, I can drive my TDi 700 miles from a full tank if I have to WITHOUT having to stop and wait and I just don't see the electric solution for that challenge in the immediate future.
