Jefferson 51st state before Washington, D. C. It's not a state for a reason.

Prices not going up isn't a good thing; it's an indicator that your town sucks.

Then why when I say prices are going up where I live, I get the advice to move to a town that doesn't have prices going up?

It started at the turn of the Century when the two political parties swapped colors.

That's funny in at least two ways, because that's fake news, and also they swapped colors in this image for some reason.

One finds humor where one can.

A. You don't own a home so you aren't benefiting from the increase in home prices
B. You don't seem to have the income to keep up with the rapidly increasing cost of living
C. Your statements on the forum seem to indicate that you have basically given up on either of those things happening.
By all accounts your town is gentrifying - which is bad if you aren't part of the landed gentry or economic class that is seeing their income increase in step with costs.
As I've said multiple times - I have no idea why someone would work in a place like Portland at Starbucks or Amazon making $20 a hour when they can make the same amount in another city with 1/2 the cost of living. Working an entry level job is fine as a stepping stone to other things. If there is no realistic plan to increase income to match the local cost of living then it makes no sense to keep living in an expensive city. You will only fall farther and farther behind - which makes moving even more difficult.

My friend is 42 and works at Jack in the Box. At least she is a manager, but she still relies on the government for health insurance--and she was diagnosed with cancer yesterday.
She has been on morphine and still complaining of pain, but she says she needs to go home, get back to work, and pay her bills.
"Are you going to apply for disability?"
"No."
"Are you going to try to get a nurse to visit?"
"No."
This reminds me of all of my classmates who didn't pay attention and insisted they would be fine after graduation--or people studying anything else with poor job prospects.
It just sounds like wishful thinking.
Some people suggest that D.C. should only consist of government buildings and the rest should return to Maryland, so that residents can finally vote for their neighbor, the president.

Why do you think working is crazy? Sounds like she's hopeful to get back to normal life.
Disability isn't a brilliant strategy for life; it's a last resort. Perhaps she doesn't feel like she's at the last resort yet.
