I finished something for grad school before calling that woman at 10, but she didn't answer, so I left a message, and called back at 10:30.

She was curt, insisted they didn't have anything for rent, and started repeating herself, so I said "Thanks, bye," reloaded the listing, and then the landlord e-mailed me.

I mentioned calling the woman I was told to call and he said "Don't pay attention to her," I sent the information, and he asked if I wanted to see it at 09 today.

Another landlord had said we could talk this morning about seeing that house, so I verified my landlords, and mentioned "I am moving from Show Low, so that complicates things."
"See you at 9."

I asked Mom about driving down last night and expressed concern about getting the two of them out the door at the last minute.
She claimed it is always my fault that we leave late.
My sister asked if she could look at it for us and I asked, but didn't hear back by the time that I left.
He said that it should be okay, but I let him know that I would be there when I stopped in Payson.
I packed and left in half an hour.
I messaged the friend with cancer that I was driving down, but didn't hear back.
Mom demanded that I called her, so I did, and woke her at 2200.
I was in front of my sister's house and needed to go to the bathroom, so I went in, and two kids and 3 dogs jumped on me.

I completely forgot about the dying friend!

Ten minutes later I remembered her and she was still there, but she said that we would talk later, and I spent time with my family.

She messaged me this morning, but I called her when I was leaving my sister's house, and was only able to leave a message.

My sister looked at the house with me, but made me late, and then showed Mom the house through Facetime.

I applied as fast as I could after getting back to my sister's house, but the wifi and my cell phone connection were intolerably slow in the guest room, and kids and dogs kept climbing on me in the living room, plus I spilled Filiberto's on a brand-new shirt, so I kept trying to clean that.

I don't know when I returned to my sister's house, but I submitted the application at 1310, being unable to download any documents from Zillow, and then I rushed home to apply for Mom and my brother.

It took her a long time to find my brother's social security number, but hopefully I finally submitted the last application before the people who were supposed to look at the house this afternoon.

I thought you were already approved for a house back in post #1381. Why are you spending time and money looking at more. Did you turn down the house you were approved for?

As you are finding - small companies and mom and pops are just as dysfunctional as corporate property managers.

I had a great experience renting an apartment. Brand new construction, fridge, quartz countertops, 2 bed/2bath, walk-through closet, balcony with storage, garbage, cable TV/internet, pool, fitness room, clubhouse... $1300/mo. The gals running it were perfectly professional.

I'd often wander to the clubhouse, get a coffee, and work there. I'm more productive when others are around, even if it's just the apartment managers taking phone calls.

I've had good rental experiences as well - and some not so good. I was just pointing out that the application annoyances that Xist has described as happening in the last week - are the same things that the corporate property manager got poor review for with the BBB.

Of course my better rental experiences are also likely because I don't expect the property manager to do every little thing. I can change a lightbulb and unclog a toilet on my own.

The management here went from mom-n-pop to corporate.

They paved the roads and put down red stripes for fire lanes and white hatching in the no parking areas. Warfarin bait traps for the Norway rats. New machines in the laundry room. The manager is indigenous and all his inlaws drive big Chevy pickups with trailers full of carpentry tools.

They've allowed my corrugated metal and PVC canopies (128sq ft), and shed ((8x12) and fences. And the 275 gallon water tank.

I rent a parking space from my next door neighbors who don't have a car.

Google Fiber isn't availale in Gilbert--yet!

I didn't put in my address, just a nearby store, so maybe that affects things, but when I searched for Internet providers, one page showed 10 companies, which I felt the need to see, and they showed:
  1. Cocks
  2. Century-old Link, and
  3. EarthUnk.
That is not 10!

Only Century-old Link shows coverage for that store, but when I searched I saw mention of Google Fiber, which is supposed to be gigabit for $70, while CoL is only 940 gbps for the same price.

I had CoL

I didn't like it.

Google showed fiber until I put in the store's address and I put in the house address just to check.

Once again I am doomed!

You do know 1 gigabit is less than 940 gigabits per second, right?

You also know there is zero DSL that delivers 940 gbps?

All the companies suck because they are oligopolies.

My strategy was always to own both a DSL and cable modem so I could switch every year and be a "new" customer. Not one of those sucker "loyal" customers who pay the most.

I doubt 940 gb is available anywhere.

I should have written 940 mb, which is what they offer: https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/

Since Cox doesn't service the area, I couldn't go back and forth if I wanted to.

You also talk about doing that with cell phones, so I looked into home 5g; Cox always advertises being faster than T-Mobile.

I don't know why they don't mention Verizon, but they only mention 4g. T-Mobile advertises 5g, but they say it isn't available at that store.

I've ran into an interesting situation here in Colorado. Taking care of my elderly parents, we've received letters saying that since they are on Medicaid and Medicare, their "estate" will become available for the government for reimbursement of any and all medical expenses that have been incurred by them and paid for by Medicaid. So it looks like that means no inheretance.

It also would seem to suggest that if I end up in the same situation, then paying some 50% of income for a condo that I will finally have paid off at the age of 80 will also probably not be of any worth as an inheritance for my children.

Not that it isn't good to pay for things when you have the means to do so. But it does make owning a house less appealing, at least here where my family lives.

When my parents pass away I will then look into whether it would make sense to buy a house somewhere else.

Who's letterhead was that letter on?
