... then there's Yelp reviews, and the like.

Someday there will be a metacrawler for reviews that will scrape together various rating sources to create a composite analysis of individuals and businesses.

All taxation is....what again?

California Wants to Impose an "Exit Tax"

A wealth tax that persists for ten years after you bail?

People love to complain, so legitimate positive reviews seem valuable.

Maybe people would only create an account with the BBB to complain, but I have left positive and negative reviews on Yelp and Google, mostly if there was a scarcity of data, or my experience appeared to be an outlier.

I'll hold my answer to 'a disincentive to productive output', for the purposes of constraining it to an objective statement of fact.

I once got a ticket in Washington for improper lane travel. Was with my friends listening to music on an absolutely desolate I-5 returning home, and steering to the beat of the music. Cop spotted me a mile away and issued the ticket.

Figured I was never visiting Washington again, so I ignored the ticket. Oregon suspended my license. My conception of federalism was not very informed at the time.

The CA law seems to give folks with above average means an extra incentive to exit sooner rather than later. Bunch of geniuses there running the dog and pony show. People seem willing to pay a premium for "good weather" though. I'd rather have 4 seasons, my own money in my own pocketbook, and no poop on the streets I pay for.

If you follow the link, they have a compliance unit that looks at anyone who spends six months instate. Where's the dentist, country club memberships, etc., to find anyone trying to get the weather without the taxes.

That State needs a wall on three sides, to contain the exodus.

I applied for a third house at noon yesterday.

Just before 1700 I asked the realtor when she expected to make a decision and she replied "By lunch tomorrow."
Just before midnight she said that Mom and my brother needed to apply, which was easy, because it was through Zillow, so I said we didn't have any pets, nobody smoked, and I gave everyone's names and contact information over and over.

Zillow informed me that she opened our applications immediately, but nothing has really changed since.

I asked at 1300 and did not hear back.

It is aggravating to have a million and ten things to do, but I want to stay by my computer in case I need to do something to get a house.

I did try to go through the garage.

I finally cleared a path to the last part of my ice cream maker.

I had finally found all of the parts on Saturday and put them together, but apparently I needed to take the time to put everything together in the box.

It was right by this guy, who Mom bought for my brother for Christmas.

We thought it was cute, but he was not impressed, and then Mom told him to put it in the garage, so Dino told me he loved me whenever I went out there.

I donated him and other things that nobody has touched--except for moving aside--for years.

Mom verified that I had my regularly-scheduled client and then went to Safeway. I waited in my car, got my brother off the van, and tried to take care of him until Mom came home.

She arrived 25 minutes after I needed to leave and kept yelling at me to go and see my client [almost half an hour late]. We rescheduled for tomorrow.
I had a back seat full of things to donate and a trunk full of garbage, so I drove to the thrift store, which is on the way to my day program client, and then turned around and drove to the dump, which is on the way to the client I was supposed to see today.

I was able to donate everything, although I forgot the upholstery cleaner that I have only used twice.

Unfortunately, the dump closes to the public at 1530, so I drove 19 miles for nothing.

It closed when I needed to leave, so I needed to leave 20 minutes early for something that would take 5 minutes.

Renting and an idle house is not an optimized situation. Is there a plan there?

My mortgage principal, interest, and taxes for a 4 bed, 3 bath 2100 sq/ft house is $1,200/mo. When I rented a 2 bed, 2 bath 1,100 sq/ft apartment, it was $1,300/mo.

When I first married, we had the whole ground floor of a house for $70/mo. Upstairs [side entrance] was an elderly East European immigrant. She wore two or three coats and heated the upstairs with candles -- until she burnt the top floor out.

If you look at the other thread Permalink #x40 has a story about people in an anarchist village that pay $75. It sounds like Amsterdam's Christiania District

It has been one day!

Did I need to use smaller words? It picked up dirt, but only half the water.

My shop vac picked up as much water as the upholstery cleaner had and faster than the upholstery cleaner did--after I already used the upholstery cleaner!

This is Mom, so her plan is to make terrible choices and blame me?
