Where to start? Some ideas:
1) grille block (monitor temps carefully) = easiest mod
2) air dam
3) kammback / boat tail
4) smooth wheel covers
5) rear wheel skirts
6) belly pan
7) exterior mirror deletion / interior convex replacement (if local laws & your driving environment permit it safely)
8) lower it
etc!

I would start with a grill block, get a temp gauge though.
rear wheel well covers should be relatively easy.
I am going to lexan over the bucket style headlights, there is a DIY on here somewhere
I do have a tach which is nice, it will take getting used to seeing 3000 rpm @ 60 mph haha

I had an 1984 Civic DX hatchback.
If I remember right, the SI has a "normal" engine instead of the cvcc, it might even be fuel injected.
It did come with wider tires and a few other things that hurt your mileage, like a transmission with less then idea gearing.
mine was rear ended and I still have it, altho I think it's going to the scrap yard this summer, I do have some odd parts if you want me to mail you anything.
my favorite things about this car is how much space there is inside, the rear windows that pop out to open and how reliable it was.
Some where I also have the factory shop manual in PDF form, if you want it, not sure the best way to send it, I used to, or still might have it online some place too.

This is my civic if you look close i eliminated the top grill area just below the 4 big holes, these big holes are for the radiator because the intercooler is really big and blocks the air flow to the radiator.

The "i" in Si stands for "injection"; all of the Si models had fuel injection.
The Civic proper didn't get an Si model until 1989. The CRX, to my knowledge, had the first Si model with the 1985 model year.
There was a Civic S around then or earlier, but it was carbureted like the other Civics of the era.
....uhm, of course, all of this information was only for US markets. Honda could and did provide different variations of their cars to other markets. So there could have been an earlier Civic Si, and so on. But the above is what I understand was available in the US.

here is the car, at the moment i have the interior torn down and am looking at either vinyl coating it or new carpet.
also am doing a full service on it, fuel filter, air filter, engine o/f and tranny oil change.
wondering what to do with the front bumper as it is all screwed up im thinking of building an aero bumper? thoughts?

You can easily cut & shape clear plexiglass to cover headlamps (I did)...also, Honda sold a tiny (<1" high) front spoiler that simply bolts onto the bottom of the front bumper (check junk yards).

I had an '85 Civic 1.3 manual for almost 12 years. Drove it above the Arctic circle in Finland. Drove it on a beach. Drove it to my marriage. Did things and carried stuff I never thought it could do.
It lasted almost 19 years in our seawind climate (spent years of its life very close to the beach) and died of rust, still mechanically healthy at over 160,000 miles / 280,000 km.
Sweet memories. I loved that car.
I wasn't into ecomodding back then, but still regularly did over 40 mpg.
Had a leaking radiator twice. It was both very economical and powerful with a hot engine; it would rev much higher then.
Raced Daihatsu GTTI turbos, Golf TDIs and beamer 3 series on a par while in the book those were 2 to 3 seconds faster to 60 mph!
I was supposed to change to 2nd gear at 25 mph max, 3rd at 50 max but it easily went to 30 and 60 respectively.
Slam shifting first to 2nd which kept the wheels spinning for seconds while sapping the momentum from the high revving engine, that in particular made me pull away from the other guys.
Finally the radiator leak became too bad and I got a new one, spoiling the fun a bit.
Other than that and some minor issues it kept running fine.
If I still had it now I would definitely do a grille block and WAI, but also cool the carburetor and fuel pump; it was prone to vapour lock.

If you need to find a front bumper anyway, see if you can find an '87 parts car. They have composite headlights so you won't need to cover the headlight buckets. And as far as I know there wasn't an Si Civic in Canada before '89 either, just the 1500S and the 1.3L, both were carb'd.

What's the spoiler for? Also I'm planning on building an aero bumper from steel band and sheet metal.
