Is this new or old news? They just released some details about the Mirage for the US market. I'm surprised it weighs less than 1,900lbs for a 4 seater. Thats pretty remarkable.

The 1 liter is only being used in a few countries. The UK gets it, Japan... I think that is almost it, probably some other European countries. Sad cause sits probably a really nice engine. It has a higher compression ratio than the 1.2L. I think this is why its not being used in lesser developed countries due to poorer quality gasoline. Still, even a 1.2L is pretty darn good to see in the US. This thing is going to be amazing in a good driver's hands, and probably pretty darn good in a normal persons.

I don't think the curb weight has been officially released yet. I'll be surprised if it's sub-1900 lbs though. Our market gets beefier bumpers, sound insulation, and more airbags, so probably mid-1900 range is a better guess.
---
I'd love to try the 1.0L version of this car, but it's probably not going to happen. Several Irish reviewers have said they prefer the 1.0 to the 1.2. But a Romanian reviewer said he's never been so fearful as his time spent piloting such an "underpowered" car.

The 1.2 can already match the 1.0s on the highway, thanks to the aerodynamics. And it's not so bad in the city compared to 0.8s I've driven. Hell... though I've never driven them back to back, in my experience, the 1.0 variant of the Spark is no better than the Mirage in traffic. And the 1.2 liter variant is a gas-guzzling pig, in comparison... without any benefit in performance. I've just reviewed my table of testing data, the Spark 1.2 is actually slower to 62 mph.

If we get the Mirage in Brazil, probably we'll be getting it with the 1.0L engine for tax reasons, in spite of the higher compression that might be deemed unsuitable to lower-quality fuels.

The configuration is live!
And it's priced way too high. Wonder if the failure of this car is going to be the last nail in the coffin for Mitsubishi America?

Priced way too high? Its the 4th cheapest car you can buy in the US.
Versa = $11,990
Spark = $12,170
ForTwo = $12,490
Mirage = $12,995
And it has more standard equipment (A/C, power windows, locks, etc.)
It also thoroughly spanks them all in the mileage department.

Going to Autotrader, I found two Mirages within twenty-five miles:
Cars for Sale: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage ES in Glendale, AZ 85301: Hatchback Details - 356280959 - AutoTrader.com
$17,145 MSRP
and
Cars for Sale: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage ES in Scottsdale, AZ 85257: Hatchback Details - 356220207 - AutoTrader.com
$15,759 (MSRP $16,110)
According to mitsubishicars.com, the ES costs $1,200 more than the DS, and the CVT costs $1,000 more than the manual. A footnote says:
Quote:
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Excludes destination/handling, tax, title, license etc. Retailer price, terms and vehicle availability may vary. See your Mitsubishi retailer for details.
|
I do not know how much those total, but Destination & Handling are $795. All of that will add up, but that should not surprise anyone purchasing a new car.
I figured that the differences between the prices and the quoted MSRP had something to do with trim levels, but this dealership always advertises this on their radio ads:
$6,000 minimum for your trade. However, when I tried to find more information, all that I found was:
https://twitter.com/mark_kia/status/27492592845324289, and that links to the dealership site, which does not have any trade-in promise.
What always confused me was that they would offer $4-8,000 for any trade, and then say "Exclusive of that offer, take [the exact same amount] off of any vehicle in our new car display area."
That is a great offer for a trade-in, but not if I can get the same deal and keep my old car!
