I agree with mechman, its starting to grow on me. I really don't think it looks that bad and I certainly wouldn't mind driving a car that looks like that.

As for the manual trans, it would be nice. But, in the US automatics are king so I wouldn't be surprised to see CVT only here.

On the MPG side, it is certainly shaping up to be a wonderful car. .27 Cd from a hatch is pretty darn good, its better than the Prius C's .28 Cd. Also, all the foreign test cycles I've seen so far put it at 20-30% better fuel economy than the Spark which would put it around 40 mpg COMBINED per EPA. That is pretty impressive. Its also light! 1900 lbs today is a feather compared to everything else out there.

I like the Ford Festivas better. even though they all do look the same. I want a little aero car not a bubble car.

The irony is the Fiesta isn't nearly as aerodynamic with a Cd of .33 vs the Mirages .27.

Considering Mitsubishi's long and proud history of fudging numbers, their drag coefficient claim is questionable.

What numbers have they been caught fudging?

Then again, most Cd figures need to be taken with a grain of salt owing to differences in wind tunnels.

Is that with the larger 1.2L engine? And do you know compared to which Spark engine?

Here are numbers are from Mitsubishi Australia's website. I was a little off, but still pretty close.

Anyway, this is with the 1.2L engine in both cars. They don't specify manual or CVT oddly though. Anyway, lets run the numbers. Worst case rating for the Mirage is 4.9l/100km = 48 mpg US. The best case is 4.6l/100km or 51 mpg.

Holden Barina Spark with 1.2L = 5.5l/100km or 42.7 mpg. The Spark is currently only available with a manual trans in Australia.

Worst case: 48 / 42.7 = 1.12
Spark EPA combined = 34 combined
est Mirage EPA combined = 34 * 1.12 = 38 mpg

Best case: 51 / 42.7 = 1.19
est Mirage EPA combined = 34 * 1.19 = 41 mpg

Interestingly, the Australian site doesn't mention the Mirage using start/stop which many articles have claimed it has. This could be a large factor in the actual city mileage. Unfortunately the EPA testing still doesn't test with the car sitting idling to represent any savings there.

If they get them from the same factory we do, in Thailand, there is no stop-start feature on those cars yet.

I wonder if we'll also get Dodge Colt re-branded version of this car
