Optimistic- I like it

No to fibreglass- as said before it'd not be easy to insure! or keep the police happy.

Narrower tyres may happen, but once these ones are worn out! ecomodding is a budgetry approach as well for me

I'm used to eco-modding and hypermiling- prefer the inside (left) lane, at an indicated 50-60 depending on the length of the journey.

this car is too much work to hustle along at any great speed!

15L veg at £1 a litre

38.6 L Diesel at £1.459/L

Lots of high speed (70mph) motorway driving, as had deadlines to meet.

Fairly happy as this was a 30% veg oil:

54.5 MPG (imp)

Didnt get the thermostat fitted- will try to do it this week!

Anyway, mine has a solonoid and I run the power to that solonoid through the contacts of a relay and use that for shut-off/DFCO engine braking. Works great( so far).
Yeah I have an electronic shut off solenoid (I think!- can you post a pic so I can confirm? still new to diseasals!)

I can recommend a turbo

My AAZ is in need of some fettling before I look at what you're suggesting-

The Glowplugs are rubbish- so if the block got too cold on an extended glide/braking event, I'd be having fun re-starting

The engine Bay could do with more insulation, and I should fit the damn thermostat I have sitting to go in.

Then there are the other considerations:

1. I dont feel comfortable with the idea of EOC/mechanical shutting off of fuel on my commute- the traffic conditions dont really allow for it to be done comfortably, in my opinion..

2. I have, however, considered screwing the idle stop out to drop the hot idle down from 1000rpm- thus lowering my fuel consumption during E(on)C/braking events.

I know its a half way house, but until I'm entirely satisfied with the ability of the car to start/stop on demand, it'll do.

I'm away to scour your thread for further ideas!

Yes you have an electric shut off solenoid. It's located on the top of the injection pump, close to high pressure fuel hoses.

I think that it could be done with a simple switch for testing and you have a manual DFCO then and a kill switch. Or you can geek more and build a fairy simple electronic device with a switch for getting "throttle pedal released" signal and a signal from an alternator to get revs/min signal. Then if you have revs like above 1000 and throttle pedal is released it gives DFCO signal to the solenoid to cut the fuel off.

Worth investigation then:0

Thanks for the info

Also, going to phone my tame mechanic to get a quote for doing the timing belt- want that done before I start playing with boost and fuelling

they will come after the suspsneison is replaced (possibly this weekend!)

Front suspension is replaced- (pics of new ride hight at front to follow)

Looks like the front arms and possibly driveshafts are on their last legs- will need further investigation..

Back up to 57.14mpg (imp) on last tank- a pleasant surprise given teh last couple of hellish commutes I've had.

90 mins for 34 miles just aint funny!

Today I've spent 37 minutes to drive 8 kilometers! ****ty life I've managed to keep 18km/liter (43.75 MPG US) but anyway that's terrible.

350 miles per week commuting here, then throw in some trips to the unit at the weekend, and we're at 600miles a week.

Lucky I like driving, pity its mainly on the m8
