I do not think that four-cylinder trucks will ever catch on without sound effects.

This isn't to say it's a horrible truck, but Honda had an opportunity to show us a new way to truck, and it wasn't compelling enough to be adopted by anyone else.

I think the first good implementation of a hybrid pickup will be a huge success and spur most trucks to adopt a hybrid platform. It doesn't make sense to have an enormous engine for the relatively short amount of time spent accelerating, and trucks throw a lot of energy away stopping.
I was under the impression the Ridgeline got pretty good fuel economy, relatively speaking? I think it's the best (non-diesel) EPA-rated mid-size truck in the US?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but being top of the heap doesn't strike me as poor.

Depends on your defination of catch on. Toyota, vw, Datsun, courier, ram 50, ranger all had 4 bangers as base model

It should get better--21mpg AWD, 22mpg FWD.

The Ford F-150 2.7 Ecoboost 2WD matches it at 22mpg combined.

Disagree. Look at EcoBoost take rates, I'd never have thought a six could supplant a bent eight in a full-size pickup. I think as a volume engine, the four will sell just fine. And that's as someone who finds four cylinders to be annoying from a sound perspective.
