Thanks.

I'd still like to see the whole drivetrain and suspension forward of the frame bulkhead swapped into an old VW Beetle. But it's not going to happen to the Superbeetle, although I have a Baja Bug I'd donate to the cause if someone wants to do it. Much better than hanging an electric motor on the VW transaxle. It even shares the four-lug bolt pattern for the wheels.

Those were import, not the V4 MLM? That's my current interest.

How does a vehicle people wouldn't want to drive in the rain, get flooded? How do multiple get flooded, especially considering so few were made in the first place?

Shouldn't they have been built to withstand water (gaskets, etc)?

IIRC it was a rental agency in Florida that got flooded out. Submerged is not the same as rained on. Flood water is nasty.

The amount of mud in the vehicle is pretty impressive. I drive ours in the rain and snow (under 2”). I have half doors and zippered uppers so I’m nice a dry. Earl, on the other hand, has no doors and I got wet just from one little puddle. I’m hoping to design full doors for it.

I always liked the Eagle door. It would act as an umbrella in the rain.

Yeah, no. It would fly off at 80mph once a bit of wind grabs it. Looks like more of a PITA to get in and out of than the zippered uppers and half doors.

Of course. Even though many conversions retained the regular transmission, and manuals still tended to have fewer losses than automatics, an electric motor enabling direct drive makes much more sense.

Really have to physically oversize the electric motor if you go direct drive. Don't need the extra hp, but the torque a larger diameter gives you. Added poles from the diameter helps loads, too.

I'd heard double the HP for a single speed.

The Eagle door could slide back [out of a pocket] and lift like a minivan door.

So many ways to double hp. Which do you have in mind?
