wow.......really!
Can you read?
do you read?

1. your answer reflects a complete lack of understanding or comprehension.
2. Flat towing REALLY has NOTHING to do with the issue.

The question has to do with DAY TO DAY use of the car....not a short tow one time in a cars life!

I am constantly amazed at what posters will post without even thinking.

Wow dude, calm down.

I was actually referring to the first post. I simply wouldn't do otherwise to compromise the mechanics of the car. There is a reason they stipulated 50km/hr, I would follow it. People flat tow cars all the time, they are behind diesel pushers and other RV's regularly. Every auto I have ever owned has fluid pumping only when the engine is on.

Calm down all please. And yeah, I'm one to talk getting annoyed at people with DSG advice

@Lean - I think the instructions in the manual assume the engine is off when the car is towed and states specifically that the limits on speed and distance and due to no lubrication of the gearbox.

My question is if I leave the engine on can I shift to N and coast as much as I like.

Or basically if the engine is on, is the gearbox lubricated ?

Thanks though.

EDIT - also remember this is a Quattro so towing with an axle off the ground makes no difference, it would have to be on a trailer.

x guage

I realize this info may not be useful because our cars are very different. I have an x gauge programmed for transmission temp, thanks to one of the programmers of the scan gauge. What I noticed was that the temp of the transmission, would decrease a little from neutral coasting. I would take this a positive sign of decreased friction and therefore decreased heat.

I have almost 30,000 miles on my Elantra with a lot of neutral coasting! No problems to report. I will know more when I go to have the transmission serviced at 60,000 miles. That the recommended service interval for heavy duty use.

Audis have one of the best Awd systems out there. I would consult an Audi forum before listening to anything said on here, unless they are an Audi guru.

I had to run a separate gauge for my tranny temp because I couldn't crack the code on the scangauge....
