Good going metroschultz.
I think you can tell your wife that we're all cheering her on.
And probably more important, we appreciate her efforts.

Well Well Well
Good Morning,
Greetings,
Salutations,
Brothers in Insanity,
I have wonderful news. My Beautiful Bride is learning, perhaps faster than I thought.
I just filled her car after the SG install.
WooHoo. Lookit her go.Check the log. The numbers are very good.(I wanted to say great but we haven't yet broke past EPA)
The first tank after SG was not good, but, we were learning, teaching, playing, "Ooh lookit the numbers change when I go real fast "
This last tank ,however , has been the best tank ever.
I'm so pleased with her progress.
Even my Daughter has noticed a change in her mothers driving habits.
#1 child was telling me about her CEL the other day and commented on how I (me the big OGRE) had got Mom all worked up over this "Fuel Economy Thing"
I learned that Barb had told Krissy she "was gonna beat the pants off her @ FE" Well Krissy-Ree didn't like her Moms tone.
I am kinda glad it has turned into a competition. That means they will both try for better mileage.
Given the info that Barb stays on surface streets. With their stop and go traffic. And traffic here is horrendous on a good day.(Yesterday was not good btw. many accidents throughout Tidewater and I64 was actually closed through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, both directions, because of an over-turned car. The upside down car stopped traffic westbound and rubberneckers created their own accident eastbound.)
And
This is her first tank after SG. I am quite pleased with the results.
Let us see what is in store from here forward.
Tune in next week,
Same Bat-time,
Same Bat-station,
Nuh Nuh Nuh Nuh Nuh Nuh
Bat....Man....
S.

This thread is great! I'm reading it with a huge grin on my face. Keep us posted.
Oh, and now that you've filled up a few times, how well dialled in was the SG2 out of the box to the actual fuel used?
Nice work, Bat Schultz!

Out of the box was not dialed in well.
First fill was just to restart the counter inside.
This last fill SG thought we used 7.4 gallon,
when,
actual was 6.8
Factor now is -6.7%
works out better for me
more to come next week after that fill.
Thanx for the feedback everyone. Barb reads the thread and was impressed that you guys took an interest in her. wink wink.

In that case: "HI BARB! Way to go! Congrats on the record best fill-up."

been down, coming back slow
Don't know if you noticed, but, If you have paid attention,
You will see that our mileage has gone down since last post/garage entry.
Hmm.
Barb swears she is doing what we discussed. (I believe her)
Hmm.
Weather has been crazy. (20* one day 75* the next)
Hmm.
Traffic is getting worse. (Sailors home, Hear song, "The Boys Are Back In Town")
Hmm.
SG didn't accurately follow the fuel usage of the vehicle. SG thought we had only used 7 gal when actual was 9 gal. (changes value, now up 22%)
Hmm.
I will give 2 more fills to SG and then start over from factory preset.
Maybe next time split the difference on the fill-up amount.
Have I overlooked something?
Hmm.
All thoughts and advice will be appreciated.
Thanx,
S.

Schultz, I started splitting the difference on fill ups, too. Eventually I just left it at a happy medium. Changing the calibration on every tank made my feedback fluctuate too much (Oh, I'm doing crappy. Ooo, I'm doing good). Now, by leaving it alone, I get consistent feedback and it's off by much less at the next fill up.
Since you're seeing 155mpg during coasting I guess Barb's driving an automatic (those darn manual guys see 300+mpg while coasting!). I assume it's because of NC with the automatic transmission. My SG reports idle-fuel-consumption rates while NC, but the engine is running up to 1200rpm. I'm guessing it's using the rpm in its calc's, and that's throwing it off. More NC = more inaccuracy? Who knows? The truth in is in the pump.

well lessee if it helps
So I fill up Barbs car last night,
& guess what,
her MPG is almost identical to last tank.
S2 I get what you said. I did that last night.
I wrote more in the fuel log than I will here.
Just had to say HI.
Hi everybody.
Her driving is, apparently stable.
My dialing in of SG is, apparently not.
I lied to SG last night.
We were @ a factor of 22%
to get the exact fill quantity it would have put our factor @ 5%
our first factor was -7%
I stopped @ 10%
maybe this will help stabilize a little on SG side.
Barb has had 2 tanks with near identical results.
Now I want to see SG with 2 tanks with similar results.
OOHH Goody wouldn't that be Neato Spiffy Keen.

I'm glad you got it, S. That post isn't quite coherent. It made sense when I wrote it. Must have been the wine
For those who didn't get it, my SG would adjust to -10% on one tank, and I'd think I was getting great mileage on the next tank, based on SG info. Only to find out needed to be set +5% on the next. Then the SG reported lousy numbers for the next tank. The change in reported numbers from tank to tank was not helpful for evaluating my mods or driving techniques. I now leave the SG alone when I fill up - It's usually within one mpg for the tank. And when the SG reports an improvement (or reduction ) in FE, it really means something now.
And yes, I fill at the same pump using the same method every time, unless it's an emergency.

No Matter Where you go, There you Are
Barbara's fuel economy driving has reached a plateau, I believe.
Last three tank are within 5% of each other.
She is better now than when we started.
So I think this is the end for this adventure in re-training.
But now on to the lounge for some discussion on travel tips.
TTFN,
S.
