I've got a few things working against me,
1. It takes me a couple months to go through a tank
2. the biodiesel place is a few miles off the beaten path
3. the car (and biodiesel) are still pretty new to me. This is my first winter w/bio.

I do have to say my wally-world deep cycle battery really performed well, better than expected, I didn't think it would ever stop cranking :P

I may not be understanding it correctly, but I thought another advantage of biodiesel was no (or significantly reduced) particulate emissions (or PM), meaning no need to clear a DPF (and no soot to pump out if it were removed)... from http://www.energy.wsu.edu/ftp-ep/pub...bles/Fuels.pdf:

...diesel fuel sulfur level has been identified as a major contributor to diesel PM emissions.
... and since biodiesel has no sulfur, then there would be little / no soot. True?

Biodiesel reduces the soot but it doesn't eliminate it.
So the DPF will still clog over time.

This may have been mentioned in this thread already, but I recall a news story about the good folks in Bradford PA growing sunflowers in vacant lots to make biodiesel. And they employed kids from the city doing this, as well. Lots of benefits; I'm sorry I cannot locate a link.

Sounds like an interesting plan - using otherwise unused properties to make biofuel, teach about gardening/small farming, etc.

I wonder how much oil they manage to make. According to this site:

Vegetable oil yields, characteristics: Journey to Forever

you'll only get about 102 gallons out of an acre of sunflowers - If the squirrels don't get to them first!

Jatropha is another plant with a lot of potential for making biodiesel.

Jatropha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is apparently able to grow on marginal land, in dry conditions. And it has a lot of oil in it.

I hear you, I'm very excited about making myown BioD. Just got my Air Dog Raptor fuel for my Dodge 3500. It's not my daily driver but BioD will help me cut my costs once I get going here.

It's gotta be BioD,
