Their extreme disassembly might have been about as fast.
The stupid part has like 7 revisions and still makes a godawful buzzing sound after just a couple hundred miles. Common advice is to replace it with a manually adjusted tensioner.

Again, depressing.
On the other hand, at least vehicles last longer and need less maintenance.
If only there were a way to combine the two, have a car with 2020's safety, reliability and emissions and as easy to work on as one from the 1970's.

The fortunate thing is that the buzzing is merely an annoyance, and not a reliability issue. Also, the buzz only occurs at certain RPM, and not the whole range.

That would be electrifying.

I'm looking forward to a Mr. Fusion powered DeLorean.
I might settle for a Cybertruck.

Until you actually need to repair something and it costs $16,000 to do so.

People are often fooled to believe an EV will be roughly identical to a random appliance. Not only the electronic controls are much more complex, the batteries also require some sophisticated thermal management which the average Joe sometimes doesn't even know it exists, because regular 12-volt lead-acid batteries didn't require.

Give the traction packs 100 years maturity and they will be as maintenance free as a starting battery.

This may belong in another thread, but in Colorado I should be able to get $15,000 off the price of a new EV at point-of-sale next year.
The question is, should I?!

Prices will be increased ~$14,000.
That's the thing with these insane subsidies, that it's just free money for big corporate automotive manufacturers and dealerships.
You'll have to see where prices end up next year and then run the math through my spreadsheet to see if it makes financial sense.

On January 1st I'll try looking for a new Bolt from any state and see if I can find one for around base MSRP. I also doubt I'll find one, but who knows. Maybe I'll end up with a new Bolt for $12,000 after incentives. Or, maybe I won't. We'll see.
