You won't. Lowest the Bolt has gone for is about$ 23k new, and that was before genius inflation.

How much are you willing to spend? That's the only relevant criteria.

Yeah, well, inflation has changed prices. Fortunately an act to reduce inflation was created by geniuses, so we don't actually have inflation.

Judging from your calculator, assuming I could get one close to base MSRP after January 1st, I may not acually save any money even after 10 years of ownership. I need to get a quote for insurance on a new Bolt, because if the insurance alone stays the way it is I'd save about $200 per year after 10 years. If it goes up $200 per year, I'd break even, but have two cars.

Maybe I'm missing something. But in the end, I still highly doubt I'll be able to take advantage of the incentives and get an EV any time soon.

The only way it could work is if I sold the Avalon. I'm not sure what it's worth now, but probably at the very least $6,000. Na, I think I'll just keep the Avalon.

There's a reason why I don't have an EV, and I've really wanted one since 2015. That reason is that I cannot justify the expense.

That said, the Bolt is very long in the tooth having been released in 2017 and it being nearly 2024. Perhaps used prices will drop as the desirability wanes with new models coming out? I was getting very tempted when a 3 year old Bolt could be had for ~$14k.

My thosand dolla car 'needs' a new catalytic converter, quoted at $450. I might be ahead to put $2500 in the $6000 car.

Does any one know if it's legal to delete the cat converter? Maybe I shoud buy welder?

The EV I want has gone from 12.9K to 19.9K (dollars).

There's only 2 counties in Oregon that DEQ, and you're not in one. I'd just ignore it.

There'll be a $4,000 point-of-sale credit on used EV's starting in 2023.

At least your catalytic converter is only $450 and not $2,000 as in the case of my Prius.

You're still thinking the subsidy is money in your pocket. It's not. It's money for the dealerships.

The price is the intersection of supply and demand. A $4k "credit" doesn't increase the supply of used vehicles, but it does increase demand. Price goes up.

When I mention $14k used Bolts in Oregon, those same exact cars were going for $12,500 in CA. Oregon has a $2k used EV credit, so Oregon dealerships buy up the inventory in CA, ship them 1,000 miles north, and bump the price up.

But do you have to buy the car in Oregon in order to get the credit?

I need to look into it better, but I do believe the Colorado credit applies to any car bought in the USA. The requirement is I have to be a Colorado resident.

When I bought the Leaf that's what happened. Well, it was kind of a loop hole. If the car was registered in Colorado for the first time I was able to get the credit, even though the car was used and from Utah.
