Your meters are obviously all broken. I wouldn't say anything or they will come fix them.

Maybe we should legislate against idiots, both inside and outside Teslas.
It is not autocrash! A car that is old and handles badly because of skinny, overinflated tyres has that feature designed in...

Yes and no. Driver error was believing that the 'Autopilot' feature would work correctly, which it obviously didn't.

Wrong yet again! It worked as designed. Tesla did not design in an imbecile mode that parks the car when watching a movie. Either that or they were allowing the gene pool to be chlorinated.

If by design you mean a tractor trailer in front of you is identified as an overhead sign it seems like a bad design.

I meant that the autonomous mode was designed to drive the car with humanoid oversight. It was never intended to mollycoddle a movie-watching imbecile.

If you hear something in the news, generally you can safely ignore it. The news produces stories of infrequent and unusual events to entertain their audience. We heard about the Tesla death because it was sensational, not because it's a major problem. The guy who died essentially won the death lottery, and he helped his odds by not paying any attention at all.
We didn't hear about the 1,670 people who died of heart disease on the same day, or the 1,621 who died of cancer, or the 117 that commit suicide every day. There are 100 vehiclular deaths every day in the US, and a Tesla death represents a tiny fraction of the overall fatalities.
In general, Teslas are safer to operate than other vehicles, and in general, EVs are cheaper to operate than comparable combustion engine vehicles.

Then what, exactly, would be the point? (And why call it 'Autopilot'?) The whole idea of autonomous driving is that it doesn't need human oversight, so the humans can do something else with their driving time, or in the extreme, not even be in the vehicle at all.

Because whenever we show (with real-world data) that vehicle X is cheaper than an EV, you all come back with specious arguments that it's not comparable, even though it performs the same task equally well.

I think that's fair, but notice you start with Tesla being safe, and then merge that to general EVs being lower cost per mile. You don't get both there. A Tesla isn't even close to being low cost to operate no matter how you slice it, and something that is a great deal like a Leaf I would say has below average safety. A better mix of both safety and low operating cost is going to come from something like a used Camry.

For a diy mechanic, any $1500 beater will be the cheapest to operate. That is not in question here. Let's talk a new car since most people in the US want new cars. And can't work on them themselves anymore so they have to take them to the dealer where they are prone to go by the service intervals in the manual because they really don't understand what is going on in car anymore. The average person is becoming science and mechanical illiterate.
