smoke

Great video find! Thanks for sharing that!I would have preferred,Nina stay out from in front of the car,and just park a smoke rake there,so we could see more than one strata of air in an undisturbed flow field. Also, airspeed looks pretty slow.If its 20-mph or better, then they'll have turbulent boundary layer, hard to tell. From one of the monitors in the control room you could just barely glimpse the back of the car, with smoke spilling into the wake.Sure would have liked to see more of the aft flow! 30% drag reduction will mean 15% greater battery range.Nice!

I would definitely like to see more than 1 flow path, and higher speed.

But MOST importantly. GM Please don't let us down again. I want to like you, I truly do, you've done so much to piss me off lately, but if you can get this right I can forgive you.

So they got the Cd down 30% from the original concept. Do you know what the original concept Cd is? 0.43 is the number reported. The production version is said to have a Cd of 0.28-0.3. Hardly impressive.

The Volt: much sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Nice fluff photoshoot. Cute scientist, studio lighting, smoke show.

Despite the obviously set up photoshoot, I think GM may actually be somewhat serious this time. The styling is incredibly conventional, almost boring. This means they actually want to sell some of these. The prototype was ugly which made me worry that they were trying to make a flop on purpose.

The Cd numbers are pretty sad, but remember this is GM. They still want you to use a bunch of gas. Image is everything. They want to seem like they are innovating and green with out actually having to do it. Nothing in the volt that I have seen is either innovative or revolutionary. If they were really serious about getting their customers off gas they would be developing all electric vehicles period.

Don't look behind the curtain...

as long as it dosn't squeak and rattle inside like the cavilers did then I may consider geting one.

They probably did it at 20mph for this video because they didn't want ninas hair blowing everywere in the video.

They're apparently using the Prius as a benchmark, and at the same time claiming that Toyota's Cd numbers aren't accurate: http://ecomodder.com/forum/18401-post9.html
