Howdy y’all, it’s been a minute hain’t it?!

I’m currently Insight-less and still maiden-less XD

I hydroplaned and crashed my Insight in January this year. The plan is a new Insight, and to eventually fix the old one and give it to my brother. If he does not want it, then at least I’ll have a dedicated parts car.

I haven’t stopped my hypermiling tho. Drove my roommate’s 2017 Kia Sorento and was able to get 41.7 mpg while having the CC set at 57. I’m slowly getting them to save fuel and challenging them to do better.

I don’t have an image hosting site anymore, so I’m unable to share photos of the Insight and what not. What is everyone using nowadays?

I had two separate instances between August 2023 & January 2024. First thing was accidentally driving onto a flooded bridge early in the morning. Unbeknownst to me, the area had gotten over 10” of rain during the night while me and a lovely lady were having bedroom activities and very little sleep lol. I had heard it raining but was unaware of how bad it actually was. In my physically exhausted, sleep deprived state, I was not paying attention like I should have and was in a hurry to get back home. I got extremely lucky that I did not die. The radiator support caught the tree perfectly and there was a small logjam perpendicular to my car, which kept the strongest rapids from washing me away. Almost inconceivably, no water got into the engine or transmission. I had to drain the entire interior of the nearly foot deep water. Afterwards, I reattached the front bumper and drove it home!

January 6th this year, I was out DoorDashing. Hydroplaned on an on-ramp, spun out across traffic, somehow not hitting anyone nor anyone hitting me, and went into a guardrail. I was incredibly lucky for it to have been just a single car wreck and not getting hurt. Once again, I was able to drive the Insight home but it hasn’t moved since then except for a short drive to charge the 12v.

I’m not sure if it is more economical to fix this one or get a new one.

Similar to my experience in the Superbeetle. Temps dropped about 20 degrees while I was in a movie theater and I encountered solid ice on a freeway onramp. Impacted the guard rail on the right, but the guardrail on the left saved my life. Fifty feet further and i'd have been ejected backward into the freeway lane.

Had to fight my own insurance company to avoid a rebuilt title.

I'd fix that if it were mine. I wouldn't think it would take much to get it on the road unless there is suspension damage.
I've always thought these cars were cool!

I flipped my old 1998 corolla when i owned it. I was driving down a back road one night at 25-30mph I went around a bend and suddenly found my self on slick mud sliding straight. I slid straight off the road and down intoa creek and the car stopped on the passenger side. The car got water in it and all my groceries got waterlogged and ruined.
Flatbed tow truck came and pulled me back on the road and the car started right up and drove just fine, not even a dent. just water and mud in the interior and power steering fluid.

I believe I am going to try and rebuild it. I was planning on getting another Insight and rebuilding this one, but I life has a way of diverting money into things you NEED rather than things you just need.

One thing I worry about is the amount of body damage in the rear. It’s all aluminum. Getting it bent back into shape would take a shop that knows how to rework aluminum vs galvanized steel. I’m horrendous at welding despite growing up in the country, so I can’t fall back on that.

The plastic panels I need are ridiculous expensive as well, as there is no aftermarket. Tho much cheaper than a new to me Insight.

There is not many 2000 Insights left either, especially with factory A/C. That alone makes it deserving to restore to its former glory, in my eyes at least

It looks like a headlight and a fender would get it back to being a usable car.
