Suddenly it all becomes clear to me.
Scientists lie. They have a vested interest in not telling the truth. They aren't in it for the good of the world, oh no; it is profit, and only profit that drives them.
On the other hand we have the enlightened bosses of the fossil fuel industry and the shareholders in their companies. They only want to do their corporate best, and let their commercial interest rule their actions - because it is good. A financial gain means a healthy company, and healthy companies lead the way to a healthy world. And their song of praise is just what the SUV and truck buying folks want to hear, how convenient. Don't let those stories about building pollution spoil the day - all that negativity is bad for you. It is bad to say those bad things, so burning fuel must be good. Only trying to save the world and protect the right to burn oil as fast as we can.

Lionel Lebon quotes Gore Vidal all the time "I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm a conspiracy analyst." I have friend who tries to do the same thing with the mainstream media. I think it's not as effective.

Yes scientists lie.
It's called conflict of interest, you may have heard of this.
When a study is done and the scientists know where the money for the study comes from they find a result favorable to company funding the study at least 2/3 of the time.
Tobacco companies did this.
The worst one were studies paid for by sugar companies on sugar and any adverse health effect, studies funded by big sugar companies found that sugar had no adverse effects in 100% of studies over a 15 year period, which is statistically impossible.
Funding conflict of interest is very well known. I find it surprisingthat people who think they know so much about science have never heard of this.
I drive a leaf. The oil companies can kiss my arse.
The money me and my wife spend on gas had dropped by at least 80%.

"The kingdom is considering building 17.6 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity by 2032, the equivalent of about 17 reactors, making it one of the biggest projects globally.
According to Reuters news agency, Saudi Arabia is aiming to reduce the amount of crude it burns at home to generate electricity to allow it to sell more of it overseas.
If the kingdom proceeds with the plan, it would become the second Gulf Arab state to launch a nuclear power project after the United Arab Emirates, which is building four South Korea-designed reactors"

According to an energy administration article I read a few years ago Saudi Arabia could stop exporting oil as soon as 2020 and start importing oil as soon as 2030 if their explosive economic growth continues.
But I don't think they are about to stop exporting oil with in the next year but they clearly understand where this is going.

The rich middle eastern countries are hooked economically by their extravagant life style, where most Saudi men don't do any work, to selling oil at any price. Any country that can afford to just leave it in the ground until it hits $200+/ barrel in a few years will be well placed.

Slow progress from Moltex.
.
London, 13th July 2018
Just weeks after its success in being selected as a winner in the UK government’s Advanced Modular Reactors competition, Moltex is delighted to announce that it has also been selected by New Brunswick Energy Solutions Corporation and New Brunswick Power to progress development of its SSR-W (Stable Salt Reactor - Wasteburner) technology in New Brunswick, with the aim of deploying its first SSR-W at the Point Lepreau nuclear reactor site before 2030.

DOE awards $400,000 for R&D with Argonne
ThorCon US has been awarded $400,000 for cost-shared research and development for advanced nuclear technologies, U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced.
ThorCon US is developing a thermal thorium/uranium molten salt fueled ThorConIsle fission power plant. The approach uses shipyard production to build a complete 500 MWe power plant which is towed to a site and ballasted to the sea bottom. The plant will generate electric power cheaper than coal, after completing testing which begins in 2023.
