1st over 40 mpg tank.

I got an unexpectedly good tank last week, 5.76 l/100km, 40.84 MPG.
Unexpected because it's winter here at present and my previous best of 5.88 l/100km, 39.98 MPG, was three months ago, during a warm spell in autumn.

I'm still trying for my current goal of getting better than 6 l/100km, three tanks in a row. This latest tank takes my three tank average to 5.99 l/100km, but that's not actually all three better than 6.
I'll have to concentrate extra hard this week coming, I really want to equal last week's result!

Well, I beat that goal a couple of weeks ago.

I guess my next goal will to be to reach 5.5 l/100k. That would be a (theoretical) 1000 kilometre tank.

My new personal best of 5.68 l/100k (41.39 MPG) today is a step in the right direction.
This was from my usual pump, but it stopped earlier than I expected, so went to three clicks instead of my usual two ... and still got the PB.

Well I met my goal, just over 30mpg last tank. About 70/30 highway/city driving. With my current commute 32 might be possible but trying to control myself for an entire tank, 2 weeks, can be difficult.

Come to think of it, that's the best tank I've ever had even against driving interstate back from NC.

After utilizing some of these hypermiling driving techniques I was able to achieve 41.25 mpg with my stock 97' Mirage coupe. (only mods are exhaust and upgraded to alloy rims) Some city driving and idling was involved. Sometimes with a passenger. The A/C was on the entire time, windows always rolled up.

I did a minor tune up so I'm hoping to get even more MPG next time. Just last night I replaced the spark plugs with NGK plugs(old plugs were completely worn out), replaced the dirty engine air filter, replaced clutch fluid, replaced fuel filter and replaced clutch fluid. I also changed my oil from 15w40 to 10w40. (originally the car had 20w50 when I bought from previous owner. =/

I'm thinking this car is capable of getting 45mpg+ if I do a lower bumper block/fog light block and also turn A/C off along with this minor tune up I just did. We'll see.

I currently have 13" light alloy rims with 175 70 13 tires mounted. (this is the factory tire size even though I have aftermarket light alloy rims, I hate steel rims) Car has cheapo (but like new) douglas tires on front, and worn down rear tires with wire showing. Surprisingly it does very well in the rain, I think it has to do with the skinny tires being able to dig into the pavement better in the rain than a tire with a wider contact patch (like say a Corvette with similarly worn tires). I'm thinking about buying two michelin defenders. Rotate the douglas to the rear and put the michelins in the front. Or I may buy some used cheap tires with decent life from craigslist. I'm not sure... With this car the name of the game is saving money.

Just set a personal record tank:
712 miles at 57.7 MPG

I think the nose cone and belly pan helped but the LRR tires did the most I think.

On my way to work yesterday, the Scangauge reported my fuel economy at 50.9. Now I just need to find a few things to tweak here and there to try to get that an everyday number!
