the best is 31 and the worst is 25mpg for the 4 models.
go to tire rack dot com
FInd out the STOCK size tire.
find its diameter.
See how your diameter compares.
you might be smaller so your turning more rpms

thanks for the advice! i really appreciate it.. with my mpgs i should've bought a V8 lol. I didn't realize smaller rims made the RPMs turn faster!

not necessarily smaller rims.......but smaller diameter tires
it's all about the final diameter of the TIRE.

on 18 inch rims stock was 245/45/18.
I went with a taller tire on the stock rim 245/55/18 and got a 6% larger diameter tire that still fit. It lowered my rpms on the road and helped me get 32+mpg in an 02 Infiniti Q45!
never did anything to the engine....

Yeah, you have the 0.702 fifth gear and the 4.058 final drive, which is a little better than the Del Sol Si and a couple others. It's about the same gearing as alot of the DX and LX trims had, fifth and sixth generations. The engine too is fun, because it does not have any of the vtec features, which at this point are aging and becoming difficult and costly to get some parts for, like the all-important wideband O2 sensors and exhaust manis and CATs.

Awesome platform for good, economical ecomod motoring. I love the look of that little car, personally.

I compiled that information from service manuals: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post378478

How does it drive? Maybe vtec is stuck in the engaged position? Maybe previous owner put another cam in it or did engine work? Maybe the engine is toast? Have you done a compression check?

I'm going to ask what might be a stupid question but is there any maintenance that needs to be done? Plugs, wires, belts, fluids, etc. you probably have but every now and again you find someone who hasn't or sometimes a spark plug is bad and just needs to be replaced even if it is newer. I was just talking to someone the other day who said they don't change or even check their transmission fluid because they (and I quote) "were told that you don't need to because it's just a scam and you never should do anything to the transmission because that's just going to wreck it. You don't even need to fix it if it breaks because you're better off with a whole new transmission anyway"

At that point I understood why they were having transmission problems in their car.

Its a D15b7, non vtec, no compression test done yet. I did however notice that it needs an alignment. would it be significant enough to kill my gas milage so much?

Put 270,000 miles on the Infiniti Q45 w/ a sealed transmission.

With that said, some cars might still have a filter and need to have the fluid changed. Others might not.
