Wasn't rust a standard feature on those ? I have heard that the build quality is rather questionable.

Was it downhill with the wind behind them :P ?

A guy who I worked with had just bought a matiz just before a fishing holiday, it was him and three others who drove form Göteborg up into the Fjörds of Norway, he was sooo pleased with it when he bought it, he was sure that it would save alot of fuel. Anyways long story short, firstly they couldnt fit all the stuff in the car and had to leave a lot behind, they lost a day of fishing as it crawlled up the hills. For the return journey they left stuff behind, and the atmosphere for the return journey was rather bad, they planned for a longer jounry and left alot earlier. He kept it for a few weeks then sold it. He was susequently banned from choosing the vehicle for future trips.

Well, Ladas have a terrible rust, but the 2000-> ones do not actually rust as bad. It's on the same level as owning a korean or a cheaper Japanese car here in the north (Suzukis and Daihatsus). People just don't rust proof them as they are cheapo's

But I have to agree on the build quality.

But hey, VAG products are comfortable, but when they break it's really hard to access anything on them Lada is just a honest car

And I owned a '95 Escort too and that thingy was absolutely falling apart. But that's because of it's previous owners sans my aunt who gave it to me.

Men jag är inte svensk, which is why english comes easier to me (and also I presume forum rules / politeness) but I have been living here for a number of years, I have met a number of Finish and they have been quite nice, a bit crazy when alcohol is involved, they also taught me the word perkele

I was lucky with my escort it has spent most of it's life in a garage so almost no rust, I will rust proof it again after it has it's road worthyness test.

Yeah you are right about VAGs they are not the easiest things to fix, but then I think that goes for most modern cars.

English Rumor says that some of the old Lada shared parts with the russian tanks, after the cold war the parts were abundant and cheap, is this something that you have heard of ?

I don't think it's just hypermilers people get mad at. People get mad at fast drivers, people get mad at going with the flow drivers, people get mad at slow drivers. People get mad at every thing that happens out there on the road. I admit I was going down that path as well but maybe it's just age and experience, there is more to life then getting dissed out there on the road over every, little, thing.
If everyone acted at their job or at social events like they do behind the wheel, they wouldn't have jobs or ever get invited to parties. Somehow their car insulates them.

That's probably a rumor. But I've heard tanks were molten for scrap at lada.

And alcohol is a finnish curse, ikr (offtopic)

I rolled past someone at the lights yesterday, after he passed me a couple of intersections earlier. I ROFL'd

Galvanization on most cars did not happen until mid '80s, majority of quality vehicles were galvanized. Then, of course..., the "cheap"/inexpensive models or car makers, DID NOT or not as good. Plenty cars died or natural causes, primarily RUST !

Fiats were great IMO, Lada..., well, seems someone forgot any and all quality control !

People often get mad at me and pass me. At the next light, they get even more mad when I use my horn as they hold me up at the light.

Other times they get mad I'm not accelerating to a red light. They are often more mad because I time it, and do a 10-29,39,49,60 MPH (depending on speed limit) pull in second gear.

But the best are when they pass me, get caught at the light, and I drive past them at 20-50 MPH faster. Beautiful.
