This new prototype looks fantastic. If the expected ship date is 4th quarter of 2016, this will be the last prototype?

The plan is to make 25 more. I forget the word for it-- they aren't really prototypes, more like pre-production versions. Then they'll use those 25 for EPA testing, crash testing, etc.

Alpha production. VW made 30 in the 1930s, Arcimoto have started on their first 50.

I didn't see this actual info posted:

Elio Motors brings refined 84 mpg P5 trike to LA

Quote:
The P5 is the Elio vehicle we've been hearing about since the summer, the one with the 0.9-liter engine by IAV using a design from Elio. On the efficiency front, Elio has long said that this vehicle will get 84 miles per gallon. Elio admitted today that the software testing shows that the P5 is getting 81.6 mpg. As for the finished product, he said it will "definitely" be over 75 mpg, but that he hopes it'll be over 80 and everyone is shooting to hit the 84 mpg target. Elio is saying it will launch the trike by the end of 2016, so the 47,000 people who have made a pre-order can perhaps pencil in a delivery date around 12 months from now.
Here are a few more engine pics. Looks a lot like an updated Metro G10 engine.

That's the first thing that jumped out at me too. The edge isn't even machined on the steel cover, it still shows the plasma cut marks. I like how the bolt holes aren't counter-bored either, so those holes, that they most likely drilled out over size, won't properly locate the steel cover to the cast aluminum case it bolts to (that looks like it was gnawed out of the mold by rabid beavers) and after a few heat cycles it will squirm around and cause a nice oil leak.

Never fear! Just slather on some more RTV!!!
