I have the alpine imprint - which is supposed to set frequency response and delay automatically. Nobody has the mic where did you get that mic? I doubt best buy will take the time to set it well.

I'll see if my 6x9s will give me enough bass. Thx for the idea

I have a question!

I installed some new speakers in my car and I attached them to the plastic(?) door panel rather than the stock mounting bracket in the car. I'm fairly pleased with the result, but my question is this: will the low-end response be better if it's attached to the frame rather than to do the plastic door panel, even though the front and rear of the speaker won't be isolated from each other?

Depends. play something low end heavy and feel the door panel. flexing much? the more solid it is, the more low end is being transmitted. flexing even the thickness of your fingernail can have a significant impact on your overall low end efficiency!

With my doors, i mounted them to the metal, such as factory speakers would. then, i used chloroplast and foil duct tape to seal the door. then, i taped a layer of foil bubble insulation. finally, the door panel itself. though, the steel door skin flexes more than i would like... some angled aluminum riveted would help.

I can feel it vibrating but there's no visible flex even with heavy bass. It's not terribly sturdy, just ~1/8" plastic with some foam and vinyl over it.

What did you use to cut your MDF? I'm without access to a bandsaw and cutting it by hand doesn't sound appealing.

im also a big lover of car audio, so much so that i opened a shop to share my love with customers lol

my car previous car had similar goals but i held sound quality and price over weight

Alpine CDA9887 head unit, 16wrms x4, active crossovers and time alignment.
Tang band W4-1320SJF wide band 4" in fibreglass dash pods. (would have used the neo versions if weight was a priority over price)
Peerless HDS 8" mid/sub bass in MDF floor pods. (again would have used neo woofers and fiberglass pods if weight was a priority over price)

the 4"s were high passed at 300hz 12db/oct and the 8"s low passed at 300hz again at 12db/oct.

played within 3db down to 30hz and over 110 db at full noise.

the floor pods were built as putting the 8"s or dual 6.5" in the doors would have weighed more and cost more to get the same low end extension due to the cost and weight of deadening products.

a couple of pics:

I have never considered full pods on the dash like that... props! Tang-band full range drivers are pretty sweet, especially for the $$! I made a portable kareoke setup for a friend with 4x 3" full range drivers and they sounded phenomenal for their size and price!

[QUOTE=NoD~;317002]Thanks, ecomodded. Glad to see other stereo lovers on here.

I actually have a phone dock and can play through it... though, I'm charging my phone with the 12v system by doing that. However, I have eventual plans to change my sunroof into a small ~80w solar array, which should help cover some of the electrical costs.

As an update, I did a 2nd round of tuning. I knew there was room for improvement... I think I got it pretty fine tuned this time.

Awesome job....nice to see someother audio addicts here...never bothered with doing that in my car but one time, i have become more tolerant of bad sound in the car as i get older. Lazy i guess lol
