thanks for quantifying your fe, but as someone else said the improvement from blanking off the evap is probably due to replacing the o2 sensors, unless something was seriously wrong with the evap system before.

Replacing the old blown out intake with a CAI isnt a 5mpg improvement from the CAI- it simply restored the fe lost by the ruined intake to the same level as before.

Nothing personal, its just what you've claimed isn't backed up so I'm not going to try it. Although 16mpg does sound quite reasonable for a truck of that size in city driving.

forest from the trees, interesting not a new concept; not too sure you'd know a tree if it hit you.

but best of luck with that.

for the op;

if you do have a check engine light; key on and off 3 or 4 times, it should give you any codes stored

none cents or nonsence

disconnecting EVAP has zero effect on FE
(except for .... see below)
the ECM will use feedback from the 02 or AFR sensors to keep the
air / fuel ratio at 14.64 to 1 on most cars and where ever it wants it on the rest .

an EVAP system that is functioning as designed can not change this

if you disconnect the EVAP system the system will set a DTC for restricted flow and or incorrect vacuum supply to the LDP leak detection pump , assuming the system has a LDP , some do not .

the DTC will suspend some system testing . the CEL / MIL will remain ON until the system is repaired .

the car will leak HC emissions , which is bad , but wasted HC is wasted fuel that could have been used to move the car down the road so

disconnecting EVAP
ultimately
will UN-improve fuel economy
to the OP...
you need not understand this for it to be true .

the EVAP can function at any time
at the pleasure of the ECM not just at start up

thanks mwebb. i was wrong about my info on evap

i have the service manual for my jeep(knowing chrysler it's operation probably doesn't change between cars); anyway i am wrong the evap solenoid doesn't work at start up cold(timer delay for hot) or other wise it only works after reaching closed-loop, after that 5-10 per second.
