This afternoon I saw a custom Beetle that was quite interesting.

It had been made only in Brazil, South Africa and China. IIRC some Brazilian-made ones had even been exported to Western Europe. OTOH and quite surprising, the ones sold in Australia were made in China instead of South Africa which had traditionally been an export hub for RHD Volkswagens (though now India is also a big player on that matter, catering even to LHD markets with the current Vento which is available in Argentina and Mexico but not in Brazil).

Too bad the Germans didn't allow their Chinese partners to go further with the minivan project.

It's got the one-eyed duck but no wipers. The bottle opener is a nice touch, as are the brush guards on the headlights.

I haven't seen those brush guards on the headlights of Kombis, only on Beetles.

There's a bud vase in the ash tray location.

Chopstix will like this one. Aluminum 215 mid-engine with Buick portholes and a 53 Buick side spear.

justacarguy:The Berlin Buick. A very nice bug. How they don't roast when driving from the engine heat I've no idea

Even though a mid-engine layout could enhance the driving dynamics, in a Beetle it's just a waste of its already limited (for modern standards) space.

Yeah you called that one right, I like that a lot. Or at least the cosmetics of it.
But I agree with cRiPpLe_rOoStEr's point as well. The space is a premium so it would suck to lose what little you had to begin with.
