When I saw the email notification I got a mental picture of the Dick Landy manifold to be confirmed or denied.

Yup. You can buy one right now for $7300:
***BRAND NEW* DLi Air Cooled VW HOLLEY SUPERCHARGER DICK LANDY VOLKSWAGEN BLOWER | eBay

I think I'd prefer:

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tor-35003.html

It has a fixed 20hp boost, but it works both ways () and it has a serpentine belt setup setup just like the Holley supercharger. And even including a battery pack, it would be cheaper and more Ecomoddery.

I don't care about the Supercharger beyond respecting the past. But I do like the manifold as it allows you to run a single conventional EFI throttle body over carbs.... For the record, DLI still makes the manifolds. But there's no price on their webpage.

Is this next project you're sitting on brick shaped?

The past:

Drag Racing and a 36hp unlimited class

______

"a single conventional EFI throttle body over carbs...." I think of a 28PICT running dry as a throttle body and a fuel injector hiding inside the stock air cleaner. Some race cars have their injector upstream of the venturi. It would look stock.

Its not brick shaped like my van was. But its a 50 year old car, so its boxy in its aero. But I might sell it for a different project. Which is why I've kept it mostly a secret. Because I didn't want to start a build thread, then sell the car without any note worthy progress....etc.

Noteworthy is one word.

That last one, poor little motor with the skinny dual cannons and the huuuge tires!

I built this in the 1990s

I've had this most of that time; it was a perfect donor for that design, except maybe the wrong shade of purple

But my interest has evolved away from the bobtail look toward the Zepplin model. Picture this with the redwood replaced with Max Max steel tubing and perforated metal:

And the reflex curve taken out of the boat tail, Shortening it to three feet:

The 'progress' is in that I have kept it all (including a 1776 and 5-speed) from slipping away from my grasp. Along with a dozen others and a Clark Cortez motor home.

Yeah, spell check got me again....

I'm trying to down size my collection to only those that I drive/work on. I'm at 4 cars/trucks and 7 motorcycles. Oh and technically my former van is still here waiting on the goof ball to finish paying it off.

Plus I have a radical project. I'm going to make a hybrid gas/electric car when everything comes together. But those kinds of parts are hard to come by when they were never used on a production car.

Those are nice. Especially the last two and the aero add-ons on the first one. I only had a max of seven at one time. I thought someday I'd have time and money. I know, right?

You never commented on the mild hybrid setup I posted at #52. So are you thinking:
  • through-the-road hybrid
  • series hybrid
  • parallel hybrid
  • JATO rockets

Why would you not use OEM parts? They are half the cost of repurposed stuff, overengineered, and down the road the replacement parts are over the counter instead of custom.

http://www.aisin-aw.co.jp/en/products/drivetrain/

In the top row you have hub motors, altermotors and hybrid transmissions.

Here's a picture of an EV (induction motor, lead/acid batteries) to bring us back on topic:

And, the only V8-in-a-bus I care for:

http://engineswap.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/1962-VW-Bus-With-Mid-engine-V8-05-1024x567.jpg

and that's mainly because the bullet turn signals are dropped to below the headlight. Subtle.

I saw the post at 52, but it reminded me of electric superchargers and things like that. So I figured I would avoid that topic.

I don't want to share my hybrid project until I'm at a point where I can make real progress. As there's nothing spectacular about seeing a tube chassis collecting dust. Hence almost zero OEM hybrid parts will work on it, except maybe the battery packs. But so I don't completely leave you hanging, here is someone else's car that is similar to what I've made. Link (This is why I am considering selling my old cars and bikes. Down sizing = progress! Also its why I don't own a VW)

Edit - Crap I forgot to include a pic to stay on topic....
