Is that color Sun Bug Gold?

A friend keeps emailing me about Facebook posting about the raffle of an electric bug by Omaze. You may have seen ads on Youtube.

Today he pointed to a 21-window bus with Porsche power. It sounds like they're found a way to turn gold into platinum. ....or latinum.

Once again, they chose non-L-code colors which diminishes any resale value. There are a lot of color choices in the 21-window era. A quick glance at thesamba.com/vw/archives/.../colorstype2.php suggests Seagull Gray over Mango Green.

A quick trip to https://encycolorpedia.com/ and we find that mango Green is [888a5d] in RGB, no result for Seagull Gray. And that scheme would go well with a bamboo interior.

The wheel choice is interesting, I'd settle on an Empi wide-five five-spoke but the shape of the spoke is more like a Minilite, which was eight-spoked.

I don't know, but Volkswagen mentioned it as tan instead of gold.

I had a car painted Sun Bug Gold once. A guy at the body shop took me aside and whispered that the color came out as 'tan' because he didn't use the correct spray gun pressure.

IIRC it's a three-stage paint, clear/color/clear that let's the paint flakes stand up instead of laying flat.

I have seen another one with the same color this Friday afternoon, and tracing its manufacturing year by its plates the color appeared as tan. But I also believed it was some shade of gold when I saw it.

Turns out it's complicated. I found this:

1974 Sun Bug - SEBeetles.com

Quote:
Paint and Upholstery: L98C (U5, W4) Hellas-metallic / 41U Nussbraun or 47T (68) Mocca leatherette L99B (** )Harvestgold-metallic / 41U Nussbraun (the use of these two paint colours is a complex one and discussed in detail in the Context section below).
The context section on paint runs to eight paragraphs and includes pictures of OG paint code stickers.

Chopstix likes non-VW engines swaps:

True to their name, they take two Beetle bodies, cut one in half and then cut a 10" strip out of the other, welding two seams the full length of the body (Plus twice the width of the roof center section). Were I doing it, I'd cut the two bodies 5" off-center and run one seam.
