Stance, nerf bars, and no gravel guards. The classic California Look, with 60-series Wide Oval Firestones and 125s on the front.

For the Cal look it needs a 1pc front window. Or maybe that was a SOCAL variant.

2 comments: I didn't see 1pc windows until about 1982. And I dont like the picture on that cover. It is definitely staged. The vw is lowered, not nose down. The "cop" doesn't have a gun, and the cop car does not have CA exempt plates (black / yellow)
The vw street racer guys in the late 70's were lowering the nose because the handling sucked above 80 mph when the nose lifted and the steering got twitchy. Cops definitely didn't carry tape measures. Btdt. I carried one to prevent tickets.

Sorry you didn't like the picture, but it's considered iconic. It's a DKP (Der Kleiner Panzer) car with Jim Holmes and Linda Dill posing with a actor.
'75 Original Hot VW Cover
Currently owned by Russell Ritchie. For me, a classic Cal Looker would be a Porsche India Red '67 and have BRM or Fuchs five-spokes, Lucas front turn signals, Italian door mirrors and plaid inserts in the low-back seats.

edit:
At one time I had a 1964 Clark Cortez motorhome. It had front-wheel drive and a Chrysler slant six. I thought the design was iconic and ahead of it's time but JACG has found a Tempo Matador Mikafa Sport Camper that has a Porsche flat four and front-wheel drive:
Just A Car Guy: not just a cool van, it's a 1955 Porsche powered people pleaser (thanks Rick B!)
2nd edit:
This appears to be the same one, pre-resto: Just A Car Guy: a 1955 Tempo Matador Motorhome was just pulled out of the Nevada desert and is on track to get freshened up for the Wasatch Classic VW show
3rd edit:

It'd be more likely to get $30K if it was stock and restored to the same level.
The green Looker is more British, with the chrome headlight rims and license plate light. Mahle gas burners. Is that an L-code green?
I had a Zenith Blue 1967 for a while in the 1990s. It had a sunroof and primer gray rear fenders.
edit: Found this:
www.carscoops.com/.../vw-group-wins-copyright-case-on-beetle-design/
Quote:
The daughter of Erwin Komenda, who helped style the original Beetle, lost a copyright case against the VW Group in a German court.
Komenda’s daughter was seeking 5 million euros ($5.7 million) in compensation for the part of her father’s contribution in the design of the Beetle, AutoNews reports, with her claim limited to Beetles built since 2014 because of a statute of limitations.

Sounds like an attempted shake-down.
