Bumping this old thread up... I'm having my front toe set to zero following a steering rack replacement. I'll post up my findings later on.

After reading through this thread, I'm curious AeroModder how your car will handle. My gut feeling right now is to stick with original specs, as handling is more important to me than a few extra MPGs.

I recently had mine changed to zero toe front and back, and it drives just fine. Only very slightly "wandery".

After some unexpected freeway driving, I do have to say it does have the tendancy to track and follow grooves in the pavement, but it's nothing extreme. Far better than the loose right front wheel I had before. The new rack is also slightly stiffer, so the steering requires more effort, which helps in keeping the wandering in check. The final toe values in the front were .02 and -.01 degrees (they were fluctuating, so they're both really close to 0), and .09 and .06 degrees for the rear.

Pretty much, you just need to pay a little more attention so that your car doesn't wander too close to the car next to you. Completely liveable, unless you're always distracted, and in that case, you should be changing your habits anyway.

No coastdown results yet, but I'll be taking the usual route today. I also need to reinstall my front air dam/undertray and rear wheel skirts.

Might be looking into this at the next alignment.

The wandering is probably an indication that lift is about to cause rotation.

The spec for my 4WD Loyale wagon calls out -0.2" of toe in (i.e., toe out) on the front, vs. +0.2" front toe-in on the FWD models.

I suspect this is because, when in 4WD, there is no center diff, so it would tend understeer pretty badly with a neutral alignment. As-is it will pull a nice power-on oversteer on snow

Just a thought from an old wheel alignment tech--if you are thinking about trying 0-toe on an older vehicle you will have to make sure that none of your front end components have any play in them. This includes suspension bushings as well as steering linkage. Toe in applies some force to your suspension to keep any slop tight in normal driving. 0-toe is not self aligning and any sloppiness will exaggerate any tendency to wander.

Yep, I agree, I rebuilt my entire front end before doing this.
