excellent advice
my experience is that alloy wheels tend to be porous and leak air much faster than the old steelies
3 of my 4 cars have alloys
the 67 Camaro with steelies holds pressure the best, by far

Yeah, those are good, but I think they are more for the general driving population. I had a set like those on sale from Radio Shack, but I didn't like them. If they would state "32 PSI", they wouldn't go red until maybe 24 PSI.

Therefore, I think for our high-PSI setups, we would need to have more precise versions and/or pick the highest PSI ones they offer.

Hrmmmm, maybe my experience was with the cheapy versions.

I have those caps that tell you when the tires drop to 31 or lower (normal is 36psi or higher). The one downside is that putting the caps on and taking them off the tire results in a small loss of air and I'm not sure if the cap is really airtight to the valve. Another worry I have is they could be a source of air leakage.

I know I should check my tires at least once a month but I get lazy about it. With the last few tanks I've been getting, I think I need to look into it.

Mine are 50 psi, and they go red at 44 psi. I got them on ebay.

I did have one that leaked once, the secret is to install and remove them by twisting the metal portion only, not the clear plastic cap.

Tires definitely need frequent checking.
Monthly is not nearly often enough in my humble opinion.
Weekly sounds good to me.
But I do get lazy sometimes.

I had same thing happen to me a week ago, just from temp changes. I have been running my 35psi tires at 40. Well it dropped about 30 degrees outside over last couple weeks. I check tires once every 2 weeks. Everyone of them was down to exactly 26psi. 14psi drop just from ambient temps, crazy never checked enough before to realize they change that much.

The temperature change should only have resulted in a 3 psi drop, so you have another problem! Nail?

On all 4 tires exact pressure drop! I checked again 2 days later still holding 40psi.
