You have to remember that all the power for the Prius ultimately comes from gasoline. The battery power is generated either directly by the engine or by regen using the car's momentum that was also made by the engine. All those energy conversions have losses that add up. So in a perfect world, P&G without using battery (which would have to be recharged by regen or the engine) would get you max MPGs, but in the real world with other cars, stop signs, and other road features make P&G difficult. I personally do use battery to extend glides, but mainly when there are cars behind me and only enough to reduce my deceleration, not eliminate it.
I can't think of any time that I've been using battery to extend a coast and wished for more available power. More power would just drain the battery faster.

I have wondered if the way I drive hurts mpg, as the battery doesn't assist as much on pulse when its run down.

Wheel covers are back on, (plus blue pinstripes) will post picture soon.

Isn't there any other gen 2's with mods out there? All that's been posted is a LGB.

Lots of people have modded them, though few have gone all out. PHEV is the ultimate mod. Of course it also costs the ultimate amount.

Here are a few mods I did to either of my Prius'. I had a black 04 before my current grey 04.

EV switch

block heater

PHEV kit - this one never really worked out very well

What were the difficulties of the phev? I know that you saved it from the black one, but it looks like you didn't put it in the grey one. Also would one pay for itself?

To make a long story short, the kit was mostly cheap Chinese electronics. This makes for a low cost kit, but also a low quality kit that has issues. I put a ton of hours into try to make it work well and I was sick of putting more time into it so I sold it.

If I were to do it again, I'd go the way Planetaire went. His setup is great.

Will it ever pay for itself? Yes, it will. It might be 3 years out, or 10 years depending how much you drive.

Planetaire's is amazing, but I would hate to think how much it would cost for the system.

Now there is a trick to mounting it to the car and checking air pressure without undoing the screws.
