Wow, I'm going to look into how well a 3500 V6 (2000 Maxima) will run if modded for better mpg

Tonight I got up to 107 MPH and my gauge reads 35 MPG. This is with no EOC, P&G, and also has lots of excessive idling. I did go on the highway a lot more, but that doesn't mean too much when everytime I get on the highway you floor it (friends). I should be seeing 32+ MPG from this tank (~320 miles, no orange light).

I think a Maxima would be able to easily get 30+ MPG if you mod it and keep your foot under control.

Cool, I'm going to be heading down to Florida soon to pick it up

If you're looking for a highway cruiser, a G1 Insight can't be beat. Rather, other than the limited production VW XL1, which is $150,000, no other stock car on the road will beat it. The original EPA highway figure was 70mpg.

You can get a clean and problem-free Insight for $3-4500, and they are extraordinarily reliable. IMO, the seats aren't very comfortable, but some people like them a lot.

I would love an insight but I have 2 problems preventing me from getting one. 1. Maxima is free......cant argue with free.... 2. I won't drive small cars, I have seen too many small cars owned by large ones and I just don't feel safe

Lol, but you chose to drive an F150 recklessly enough to burn a quarter tank in five miles? You really need to look into expanding the ways you're willing to get killed, bro!!

Anyway, this morning I hopped on I-4 and was immediately rewarded with a semi escort, one in front of me and one right on my butt! I spent those five miles on I-4 at 75 mph getting over 100 mpg. Oh yeah!

Ram 1500, get it right. Private property with 20 foot runoffs on both sides of the road, again get it right. (Sorry if I sound like a dick but I don't want to be seen as a moron who races where I or someone else can get killed) And yes, I don't like non-frame vehicles strength wise and the smallest non-frame vehicles I will drive are full size cars. Awesome mileage though man!

A vehicles strength in a crash has nothing to do with having a traditional frame. The only advantage a truck has is that it sits up above most of the immediate danger. But the most dangerous part of an accident is not being hit by anything, it's the G forces that your organs are subjected to.

I also prefer larger cars. Money is nice, but it doesn't mean much if you're dead. Just my $.02

Your 1st post on this thread.

Scenario:

You leave your friends repair shop and in your own truck with your friend driving a customer's truck that you had replaced the heater core for your friend in trade for lift availablility.

"Please feel free to reinforce to me how stupid I am."

Later in this thread you state that the 5 miles was not on publicly maintained roads and therefore not illegal. Not many busy repair shops with a 5 mile private test track.

Reagrdless of the place where the act occured, it was still risking the property of one of your friends customers, without the permission of the owner of the truck, to say nothing of lives and or other property.

What if something had happened? I know it did not happen, but if it had happened your friend could have ended up paying for the truck. That truck also has a data logging capability that would be hard evidence of the act.
As a shop owner myself, had one of my employees raced a customers car they would have been immediately fired on the spot.

The absolute only exception to that rule would be on a sanctioned race course, with the owner in the vehicle, written permission and a waiver of liability in case of an accident of any type.

Never in a pickup truck under any circumstances. They tend to end up on their roofs a lot more than cars with drivers and passengers ejected.

regards
mech
