Harley Exhaust Baffle on Honda HX?
Hey all,
When I purchased my HX it had a fart pipe on it. I removed the tip, but left the muffler since it's a stainless steel muffler:
It's still obnoxious to me and I want it quieter. There are baffles out there for Harley and other mufflers/tail pipes. They slide in and are held in place with 1 screw (or welded). I am debating installing one in my HX muffler.
Does anyone see any issues with this causing FE decreases or should this have no bearing on it?
Thanks...

What is the rest of the exhaust like?
Not sure if this is the case with the HX, but on the VX an over sized exhaust messes with the exhaust pulses enough that it will kill o2 sensors.
Most exhaust pipes have a muffler of sorts in the center of the car too called a resonator, if that has been replaced with a straight pipe it will make the car louder.

It's new, larger diameter exhaust from the downpipe back. All stainless. I am throwing a P0420 code. I was going to replace the cat, but will be having my buddy use his nice expensive Snapon scanner to read the upstream o2 and see if that's fluctuating correctly.
Yep, the OE resonator has been removed. That's why I'm wanting to do a baffle insert into the tailpipe.

If you have an extra large tube that induces turbulence at low rpm because it's simply too big and flow stagnates somewhere upstream, adding a baffle downstream won't clean things up.
I realize you're more interested in sound, but messy exhaust flow will hurt power production... whether it will hurt economy, I don't know... but I believe it will.
You could just put it up on E-Bay and look for a stock exhaust to replace it? What's the diameter of the tube and where does it hook up to the stock exhaust?

Power doesn't bother me at all. My sole worry is FE. I have my 3 other vehicles for power.
Like I said before, the stainless pipe starts at the end of the down pipe, just after it make the near 70*. I'd estimate the pipe dia. to be around 3", but I have not measured.
I'll see if any friends with stock exhaust want to trade me. Thanks.

Do you have any aero mods? Upper 40's to 50's would be nice... I'm stuck at 38.8 as my best, but this is driving at 65 MPH on the highway and then some surface street driving as well.

This was my first thought when I read mswehx's post:
Woo woo!
The shape of anything you weld in the exhaust tubing is rather important...
I think the baffle would work just fine. Not ideal, but probably an inexpensive/easy solution. If you just install with screws, you can remove it if you encounter problems.

From what I have learned hee at EM, I don't think there should be any problem. Here is a compiled post of the sort of "collected wisdom" of this site: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post289125
I hope it's helpful...
