If d2d did NOT have a gun handy, would he have had no good options?
I think he would have had plenty.
If pride is all it takes for you to pull a gun on someone...

I've been in more than a couple of confrontations, and the majority of the time (if I was a little more level headed) I could have and should have diffused the situation by walking away, letting the guy pass or whatever.
I bet the hot headed stranger in D2D's story is likely able to get a conceal and carry permit. Maybe we should all carry. Of course if I had a gun and the other guy did too, in many of the situations I've been in someone would have been shot (once you see a gun it's life or death).
The upside is I've always felt a lot better when I have just let it go. Telling off the A^^% never made me feel better.

where are my options frank sitting at a stop sign at a busy ntersection his vehicle in park behind me. i could roll the window up lock the doors and sit there while he yells defiles my car tries to break in to my car. i could sit there like p$%^$ and let him do whatever. then have to file a insurance cliam and have my car repaired. maybe he breaks in and assaults me. oh i geuss i could get out and offer to shake his hand and sit down and have a nice conversation about what has happened. ( guy wasnt going to go for that) of i geuss i could just drop down on my knees and give him a &# right there in the street huh? i picked my option, i dont think i was wrong. im fine hes fine i went home at my dinner and spent some time with the wifey. he did what ever it is he does. now maybe one day i will be able to sell this house and move into a nice neighborhood where i dont need to carry all the time, would be nice. but until then you can bet there will be a firearm with in arms reach 98% of the time. ( that 2% is my taking care of paper work time )

I guess the question is did he act in a way that would earn him an arrest and a set of handcuffs?
Virginia recently enacted laws aimed specifically at road rage, with some fairly severe penalties in some cases. Ever had an idiot pass you at 80 plus on the Interstate only to cut two car lenghts in front of you and lock the brakes, becasue you were stupid enough to impede his progress in bumper to bumper traffic?
I have a permit and carry myself. Used to carry thousands to the bank in deposits made only at night and drove around the bank before hitting the deposit box, with a well practiced 5 second deposit procedure.
Never had to show the weapon, while in a car, a H&K P7, not once in over 20 years, and not a single physical confrontation since 1963. To many folks my physical presence is enough, apparently like Frank, but that does not apply to everyone of course.
I once had a customer basically tell me to my face that he had contemplated armed robbery on me. I showed him the 45 under the counter in my shop and told him I was glad he did not try.
Bottom line for me, and me alone, is insurance. A firearm (with permit), training, and a fairly well controlled temper, has been sufficient for me for over 20 years, 20 more without the firearm.
regards
Mech

My wild uncle told a story of a lesson he learned many years ago. He and his buddies decided to rearend a slow car and actually push it down the road with their truck.
They thought it hilarious the way the couple was freaking out till they saw that the car in front of them had driven them straight to the police station.

So, Ignoring those who decide that carrying a LOADED GUN will solve problems .. Back to how to deal with tailgaters...
Personally, If someone tailgates me (Bear in mine i only own a motorcycle) i do one of 3 things:
Option 1:
Slow down / move over to let them pass
Option 2:
Say "F*** Y**", twist the throttle and filter a little until im a good 1/4-1/2 mile ahead of them.
Option 3:
Have fun with them by slowing down, see how slow they deal with until they flash/beep me.. Then follow option 1.
