an airstrip, or a drag strip?

Drag Strip = Beaver Springs Dragway, Inc. 55 miles.

it's nothing special, last time I was there, a bunch of idiots had basically taken financial control of it, thus destroying every ounce of "fun" one could have on weekends there. That was 5 years ago, so it may be different now, but I would chance a guess it's at least $50 for 3 passes (1 time slip)

Air strips, I have no idea where any are around here, that are closed.

Looks like street races were $20 this year, and it's still IHRA certified, so it must be OK now.

Maybe in 4 months when they open back up, I'll have something I can bracket with for fun.

Can't find it right off hand, I'll go to the town office and ask around for title information and cell location tomorrow, see if anyone around here knows about it.

Are you sure about that? When my brother and I cobbled together an electrolyzer out of a big aluminum pan, some wiring and a couple of Mason jars, it was the hydrogen that filled up first.

Granted that was about 30 years ago, so some of the laws of chemistry may have been repealed.

I'm a little skeptical about how well this works still... but IF it did, it would be a great way to incorporate solar panels to a vehicle. The panels could be something small. 100 watt max. If it sits in the sun for 12 hours a day, it would be the same amount of wattage as what is being drawn @ 100 amps off of the alternator while driving 30 min back and forth to work... (1.2 kilowatt*hours per day each)..:: I know the angles of the sun would alter the production throughout the day but just say 100 watts average::.. . If you could have a tank that would allow for the build up of the hydrogen throughout the day and store it with some sort of regulator into the intake you could have a load free drive and a pretty efficient engine.

OR

You could have a small battery charge from the panels and then unload the battery when you need the wattage at a higher amperage for on the spot production.

But thats if they actually work!

Just a thought.

The weight of the solar cells, the tank, and the rest would probably offset any savings.

Ok. But consider this. Store hydrogen in a tank. Produce it at home using off peak electrical power. Feed it into your combustion chamber. If you run little enough of it, shouldn't you be able to push it through your engine unmodified? It should improve combustion, and add a bit of power as well.

It has been a while since my last post here ; I have been quietly reading
this thread ( and the many others ) as it gets longer and longer ( deeper?). And I have come to the conclusion I am just not smart enough to jump in & start swinging ! Too many opinions, too many facts ! How does one spell "chaos"? So...I'll just keep reading.

I want to say something along the lines of "the forest would be quiet if only the best bird sang". We're not mechanics, we're not scientists, we're not engineers. In fact, at times i think we're not quite sane. Feel free to chip in with whatever opinion/fact. Unless your being super firm about something controversial, the community is very forgiving. :P
