Sheet metal is from a furnace housing - just mild steel. (My brother was a heating/cooling technician, so I got a little stockpile of sheet metal from him).
It's thicker than the stock metal -- I can barely cut it by hand using tin snips... Happily that means it's thick enough that I can weld it without burning through... too often.
I had some pics to post, but the SD card in my camera apparently died. (How does that happen?)

You left it laying near by on the car while you were welding? Zap!

Could be!
I tried reformatting it... still no luck. It's too bad because I have some progress to show! Nice fresh red floor... nice newly cleaned & serviced front brakes... even a coat of wax on the badly oxidized paint (talk about an ideal before&after shot!).
I'll get a new card tomorrow or Fri.

I've had a couple of SD cards get corrupted. There's software out there to recover the photos, but I haven't found anything that's free yet.
Nice work on the Miata!

Very not hole-y!
This evening: tucked the carpets back in, put in the seats, vacuumed everything, finished the front brake service.
Tomorrow: rear brake service, and a bit of bondo work over a visible patch welded on the driver's side rocker.
Next week: inspection!
Week after that: 50 MPG!

Would that make it "Unholy"? I'm pretty sure my Miata is.

inspection day
I dropped it off at the mechanic's after lunch.
It looked like an international roadster convention at his shop: I parked in a line with a Vette, MGB, and an Alfa Romeo somethingorother. All convertibles.
