What's the circle in the middle? Any chance it was bearing on the end of the axle?
I have a set of baby Moon/Speedster hubcaps that will snap onto the front wheels, but won't on the rear because the rear axle sticks out about 1/4" too far.
Maybe that's why they let loose.

it's just dust. there is a lot of offset on the wheels. probably 6 inches between wheel and cover.

After three months I decided it was time to check my tyre pressures. I was surprised at how hard it was to get my disks off I added 3PSI and popped them back on. So it seems you get what you pay for, genuine Moon's seem to stay put

i might miss the 'ol mooneye, but, i have a replacement.
all parts i had on hand so material cost: $0.00.
1-8th stainless sheet stepped up to offer some material for the attachment:
discs were cut out a while ago:
basic shape:
centers located:
cinched down, tight fit and rigid due to the bends. screw welded in center:
used welder on high to burn a center hole. welded stainless washer to hole on inside. warped some so beat it out.
there is no bulge. it sits flat against rim lip and brace i added.
nut was a stainless wingnut, removed wings so need pliers to remove:
just hope it's balanced. everything was measured by eye ball, no measuring device. took about an hour to get it fitted because the disc was waiting already.

It's too bad you couldn't leave the wings on. Vandalism, I suppose.

I'd polish those stainless badboys to a mirror finish and replace the cut down ex-wing nut with a good nyloc locknut, carry the correct wrench for them in the glovebox.

Polishing would show up every dimple and wave when they're rotating. I'd go with a satin finish.

either that or black plastidip with clear, which comes out satin. thanks.
**EDIT**
cut out 4 new blanks from the same stainless material. reason being, stainless is EXTREMELY hard to drill through. so i used the welder. which made the hole too big. so i welded a washer to the inside. this caused warping. hence the dents from a BFH.
so, i will cut 4 more discs, will use a lot of cooling fluid and use the drill. my drill press is too small so it'll be by hand.
will try to point one of of the punches and punch a hole in a piece of scrap first but can already see it not going well. will use a wooden backer for the process.
enough of that....
