Never got the chance to. I had it in for only 3k. The kia shop i took it to said he see it alot ever since auto zone started selling them in our area. If you look it up youll find alot of people talking about how it cakes oil on the map sensors. That and the air filteration of them is a hair less then paper so im sure if the oil didnt do anything yet the dirt will.

Exclamation

This thread should learn yall a lesson. A new person came here and said they replaced a 8 year old air filter with a brand new kn and yall poo-pooed the idea. I bet you a new kn filter beats a dirty paper filter any day. Anyone replace the dirty filter with a new clean paper and test, then a kn and test?

Furthermore how can a kn filter be more restrictive if it lets fine particles into the engine? And if the oil fouls the sensor would it read rich therefore run leaner?

Me, I got a car with a dirty air filter after 5 thousand miles and a new one costs 20 bucks, kn cost 30-40. Its a no brainer to get the one Ill never see again for the life of the car. Hell, you cant find a filter for the insight at any auto store, but you can a kn.

ahhh how soon we forget......

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ter-12590.html

"The goal of this study was to explore the effects of a clogged air filter on the fuel economy of vehicles operating over prescribed test cycles. Three newer vehicles (a 2007 Buick Lucerne, a 2006 Dodge Charger, and a 2003 Toyota Camry) and an older carbureted vehicle were tested.
Results show that clogging the air filter has no significant effect on the fuel economy of the newer vehicles (all fuel injected with closed-loop control and one equipped with MDS). The engine control systems were able to maintain the desired AFR regardless of intake restrictions, and therefore fuel consumption was not increased."

Cobb, tell me your are being sarcastic.......please

Cool

4.1 "Acceleration performance on all vehicles was improved with a clean air filter."

4.1 "Under a more typical state of clog, the improvement with a new
filter ranged from 2 to 6%."

you are quoting the 'performance'

we are discussing bogus MPG claims

let's stay focused....

I just laced my paper filter the other day with a new paper filter. I should have taken pictures of it before tossing it out. It was bad enough i was almost embarrassed. The old one was so clogged i had idle issues. Engine vacuum actually had deformed it so some air could get through. That clogged might cause some effect on mileage. I mean if you got to open the throttle To keep it running. Yes, the air filter you choose will not affect mileage much if any at all, but like anything else, should not be neglected.

And I am certainly NOT suggesting that people keep a clogged filter!

My point is that 'several posters' including op are suggesting mpg improvements....that cannot be factually documented.

Yes, performance(acceleration) will suffer, BUT not mpg.

ANd again, the performance improvement on these aftermarket boltons shows improvement at WOT.

there is no reason to test a K & N

there is no reason to test the K & N

other testing from different sources was performed with various filters
and
with no filter at all

with and without
up to a 50% restriction imposed by a custom cut chunk of cardboard to cover 50% of the filter surface added for good measure

so unless the K & N filter has a negative resistance to flow
ie BOOST
it can not make an improvement over no filter at all , just an empty air filter housing

which resulted in zero FE change

so
bottom line
any test result especially from K & N that claims an FE improvement using a K & N air filter is
BOGUS
and belongs ..... right here

in the poop pile

Well minus the oil issue. I do believe my mpg went actually down. Which makes since if a warm air intake increase mpg by removing throddle losses wouldnt increasing your air flow make it close even more inceasing the losses?
