Just cold and rainy here in Washington, makes me really miss Alaska, at least there the snow made the cold fun.

I don't mind the cold. It might be -30 outside, but it is a nice balmy 80° inside!!! I heat with wood.

80? Don't you worry about heat stroke? It's like those Las Vegas casinos that keep their A/C at 60 when it's 110 outside: the shock of the temperature change is worse than just adapting to either.

I can imagine the relative humidity. Dry skin and sinus problems much?

A steam kettle (or large pan of water) on the wood stove takes care of that.

We have a cast iron kettle on the stove with water. It is about 90 in the living room and drops to about 60 at the far side of the house.

That's the most interesting, err, challenge to heating with a wood or coal stove.
I have relatives in NH who keep their wood stove in the basement and let the warm air come up into the house through floor vents. Works pretty well but one end of the house is still a little warmer.
We have a wood stove in our 'great room', which, combined with a very open floor plan, keeps most of the house relatively evenly heated. The lower level is another matter entirely!

I don't really like the layout of this house. It is over 100 years old and has had parts scabbed on as the previous owners pleased. It belongs to my inlaws right now, so there is not much I can do with it. I would LOVE to put another stove in the other end but that probably won't happen. They love not having to buy propane in the winter and I love the heat, but they still are stubborn about things.

It's so cold.....
That when I went to get gas this morning, I came across this sign.
Apparently they froze my credit card account.
I had to pay with cold, hard cash.
Just kidding, I used a debit card inside.
