If optimal piston speed range of 1000-1200 ft/mn holds true, this 3.54" stroke engine should like to be at 1700-2000 rpm.

update

Hi!
I figured I post a few pics here since I did some things to the mirage.

-As seen on my avatar I made a set of smooth wheel covers,if there is interest perhaps I could post in the DIY section on how I made them.

- Tinted the windows. It's almost necessary in FL

- Made a better looking lower grill block (better than foam strips stuck in the gaps)

- Lowered the front about an inch, maybe less, using spring clamps for now.

-The side of the car was "missing" something so I applied a sort of stripe that I got at an auto parts store as two 6'X6" rolls.

- I also did LED conversion where it was possible. (tail lamps not possible. While I got them to work properly,I ended up with ABS and traction lights with brake lamp circuit fault codes in the system)
So LEDs are front side markers, frt.parking lamps, tag lights, trunk light, dome lamp.

Here are some pics:

Thanks for looking!

That is good to hear. I have often mentioned that when I climbed in a Honda Fit, my knees were up against the dash!

I am 6'2".

I'm not usually one for cosmetic mods to economy cars, but that stripe on the side adds a lot to the car.
Amazing mileage! I checked Fuelly and 2 other manuals are averaging over 45MPG, so it looks like its quite good at beating its EPA rating. What is most of your driving like?

The "fleet" average of 18 1.2L Mirage owners on MirageForum is beating the EPA (12 CVT's and 6 manuals).

And despite the CVT's higher combined rating (40 vs. 37), the manual average is higher. 3dplane's effect on the average has something to do with that!

MirageForum Fuel Log stats: 19 Mirages, averaging 42 MPG, 17.9 km/L, 5.6 L/100 km

It's fair to say that Mitsubishi was conservative with its ratings for this car.

Imagine the amount of advertising that Mitsubishi could do if the EPA numbers were on par with the real EPA numbers!

I always expect to get 3-4 more MPG , but the amount this does is crazy!

Good to know! I have not "tried on" a Honda Fit yet

Thanks! I never cared about cosmetic mods either before the mirage, but it has no side molding so every time I looked at it,I felt like something was missing.

My driving is mixed highway and city about 27mile trips to work and home.

And I will hypermile as much as traffic from behind will allow me!

Some days are good but most of the time I have to keep 55mph on my highway section because nobody around here knows that it is perfectly fine to safely pass a vehicle on the road.

I just get the 90mph closing speed approach from behind and then they settle 15-20 feet behind me hoping I went faster. I see this happen to other drivers on the road too.

So to be fair to the EPA numbers we have to consider that I hypermile!

However I can only imagine how (bad) someone would have to drive or how bad traffic would have to be to get any worse than the EPA numbers!

Thanks for the great fuel log, you're numbers really impressed me so I based my tire choice to get 2 Enesaves for the insight on your numbers. That and I love a gamble so if it pays off and I can get better MPG than the RE92 I'd like to know.

What have you been keeping your PSI at?

Your numbers are just getting better, I'm really impressed. You're making me feel like I need to step up my game in my Prius and Insight.

I'll have to stop by the Mitsubishi dealer and see if this could be my future used car.

Wow, how much did you crank down on those clamps?

Yeah, I hate fooling with used cars and buy new too. Nice to have your next ca lined up in the event someone takes your current baby from you. I had been eyeing the fiat just for price purposes, but this seems to get better mpg the faster you go?
