Kill switch help
Last weekend i installed a push button start. You still need the key turned to the "on" position, but the button starts the engine. I spliced it between pins 4 and 6. This way i can use the key or the button.
Now i want to install a kill switch, but i want it to be in conjunction with the key as well. What i mean is, when i turn the switch off i want the same thing to happen like when you turn the key to off. When i put the switch back on, i want it to be like when you turn the key to on, but not start the engine.
I'm pretty sure i would use pins 3 and 4 for the kill switch but i could be wrong. How exactly should i wire it? Should i splice it in like i did with the push button, or is there another way to do it? Also if anyone needs anymore pics let me know. I have the wiring manual for the car on my computer.
Sorry for the pic, it was the best i could do.

I want to do a kill switch for my Metro, but I think the better way to do it is to cut the power to the injectors and not the ECU. If you rig it so it's like when the ignition is off you kill power to the ECU, and constantly turning this on and off is not good for it. If you just kill the injectors then the engine dies because it has no fuel, but the ECU will keep running for your gauges and mileage meters and such.
Do a search for the kill switch threads. I think there might be a few.

The only time i would use this would be for long stop lights. As soon as the engine is stopped, i would restore the power, just like what i do now with the key. I turn it off to stop the engine and turn it back to the "II" position so i'm ready for when the light turns green.
I have been looking more into the schematics and found out what pin does what. Pin 2 (IG1) controls DRL, alternator, turn signals, interior light, wipers, radiator fan, A/T, c/c, and combination meter. Pin 6 (IG2) controls igniters/coils, alternator, fuel injectors, A/T, c/c, and combination meter.
With this, it looks like when power is cut to pin 6 (IG2) the engine turns off.
Can i wire a switch like in the pic below that will turn off the engine?

I would suggest a momentary over a toggle. You would have to hold it down while the engine dies but no chance of forgetting to flip it back on before you need to drive again.
For a source of sturdy push to open momentary a brake light switch has worked well for me.
Your positioning for a switch looks good but I would test things out with a multi-meter.

No you don't. Look at all the things that die when you cut power to the "hot in ON" rail: gauges, wipers, washer fluid, ECU.
You want to leave your car's computers running: ABS, airbags, ECU. Rebooting the ECU would make it think you just started the car, and it might run rich for a little bit. You also want to leave instrumentation, lighting, and the blower motor running so there is as little disruption as possible when you hit the kill switch.
Leave power to the "hot in ON" rail, but kill the injectors.

Thats the best idea, and what I did to my car. leaving the goodies running is nice.

With doing a switch that "kills" the injectors, will it be a clean shutdown and also be set when you start back up (of course as long as the switch is reset)? Also, does anyone happen to have a video that shows killing the injectors with a kill switch?
