i got really lucky with this car.
I ran the engine yesterday for much longer than i usualy do and all of a sudden i noticed steam coming from around the distributor area so i thought "crap, the head gasket is gone too" so wasn't impressed with that. I get in the car and turn on the heat just to make sure it works and it's only cold air.
I get some water and start pouring into the rad because it was empty. As i'm about to finish i notice water pouring onto the ground so i look around and there is a small hole in the hose going to the heater core

Now it runs great, has no oil leak or coolant leak. The "bad oil leak" was the coolant leak but because the coolant was flowing on the oil coated engine it got really dark so that's why i thought it oil leaking

That was certainly a lot better than having a real oil leak

well this car has made me smile. I got it all fixed up (not pretty) but it's good. Total cost including the cost of the car is about $1400 and i just filled up today, 35mpg, that's more than double of my old Ford Escape. Fuel just went up to about $1.35 per liter ($5 per gallon) so i'm looking at moding this car and hopefuly get about 50mpg

Cool - good going!!

Did you figure out if it's really an Si or something else??

I think those might be "JDM" lights on the rear. My '97 has much more conventional rear lights. Don't know for certain whether they changed those lights for your year, or the previous owner changed them to look more cool.

From just looking at the outside pics this is not a real SI. Someone simply placed a badge on it. SI's had body colored moldings, 15 inch alloy wheels, better seats, different gauge cluster, and most important they had a B16 motor which is DOHC VTEC. This motor develops 160 HP and has an 8000 RPM redline.

The chassis might be a real SI, but someone could have swapped out all the Si parts for a regular civic. Only real way to tell is to run a VIN check and see what trim it is from there.

In a regular situation I would say you got ripped off since its not an SI but since we are ecomodders you lucked out by getting the better economy motor for really cheap!

They're Ebay Altezza-style ricer lights probably installed by a 17 year old. Nothing JDM about them. (Called Altezza after the Toyota of that name, aka Lexus IS300)

Putting in stock ones would be a great idea.

Great buy, by the way. Looks like it has great potential!

It's a Canadian SI which is the same as US EX model. It has the d16y8 motor with vtech. yes that taillights are gay but untill i find some cheap stock ones they will do the job.

Today i installed a kill switch so i'm hoping for some better numbers on the next fill up
