I understand the last port of call for the Roosevelt was Da Nang. Insufficient xenophobia there.

Not for the first time, my no-fun sister misrepresented my Facebook posts trying to get Mom angry. This time I showed that Safeway installed the legendary sneeze guards, but they were not high enough, and that I maintained my social distance by reaching over a shelf to get what I wanted from the next aisle.

She firmly believes that nobody should leave the house for any reason. I hear what she is saying, but the irrationality is strong with this one.

Sure, never leave the house once until TPgate blows over.

Maybe if you live in New Jersey. I am waiting to see how that curve projection works out. Absolutely New York and Vermont, too, but NJ is supposed to peak first.

I forget where I found those charts.

Those projections were based on each state taking actions by now that they largely haven't taken. The curves are approximately symmetrical. Theoretically, everything in New Jersey would get worse for four days, but in eight days it should be back down to around where it is today.

Arizona is not supposed to peak for three weeks, so if we were to stay home until things get better, we would be housebound for 6+ weeks.

I am afraid that it will take much longer.

I mention that because I see people debating about freedom from state surveillance in this situation, and so far I have not seen any suggestions from the "freedom" side as to how we're supposed to get everyone voluntarily on board with not-dumbassing and spreading disease.

In Korea, the disease seemed to be contained, until 2 dumbass super spreaders infected 3000 each. And that's WITH the police tracking their location through their phone.

I respect people who stick to principles and the law and argue we cannot do that in this country, I just hope someone has a better idea for stopping epidemics than "maybe we should build a high trust society where people sound the alarm and everyone listens!", because it doesn't take very many dumbasses to ruin everything, and there are a LOT of dumbasses out there.

Don't know. I think I was going for fascist/[not-pro]crastinating. Not my best work.

Principles tempered with Pragmatism.

Pragmatism considers words and thought as tools and instruments for prediction, problem solving, and action, and rejects the idea that the function of thought is to describe, represent, or mirror reality.[3] Pragmatists contend that most philosophical topics—such as the nature of knowledge, language, concepts, meaning, belief, and science—are all best viewed in terms of their practical uses and successes.
Dumdasses Knuckleheads are a byproduct of media consumption.

I still don't understand this fascination with a 95% efficiency mask that only gets that high rating after passing a 1/2 hr online class for fitment, and allows 1 micron stuff through. And they they add a pop off valve for exhale. Like what's the point?

The home-grown masks I've been seeing suggest HEPA filters are suffocating, and the sweet spot [protection/breathability] is a layer of cotton-polyester T-shirt material and a layer of 'anti-microbial' cloth. I don't know if that would be high-denier or having silver threads.

edit:
Jack Rikard gave his Corona virus take — CoronaVirus Stuff - Stock Picks Going Forward - EVTV; at https://youtu.be/-IGtmgYkq0w?t=3696 he suggests approaching-N95 levels with a disposable baby diaper worn pantsu -style plus a pair of goggles.

It could be the new thing. I also hear that Everclear is a good hand sanitizer .

high deniers tend to be restrictive, but copper and silver threads.

Furnace filters are low suction differential, typically on the order of < 1" mercury, about the same as the 3m stuff, but once again merv7+ is smaller particles. Want good filter? 3M vinyl half mask with organic compound filters (white?) The vinyl mask conform seals at body temps

Ps don't piss off the osha inspector.

I have seen fewer people wearing masks than one week ago. Didn't see anyone with makeshift masks.

Just a half-tank might not harm it so quickly, even though it may dillute some residues incrustated around the inner layer of the hose and clog the fuel filter earlier.
